What's the average cost of a speeding ticket in your state? Say 20mph over the posted limit. I'm planning a 3 week trip to western US and since I'm from Canada I have to pay the fine on the spot. I need to know how much cash to bring. J/K

That's what a cop from Wyoming told me last year when he stopped me. He let me go but I might not be so lucky next time.

Maybe that's true on border states, or in states like Wyoming that have a really small population. In every state I've ever received a ticket in, it has been mail-in or appear ONLY.

It's not the ticket here that hurts, it's the jacking of your insurance rates for three years :cursin:

It's been a VERY long time, but in my younger days I received plenty of reckless driving tickets.
I live on the border of Iowa/Illinois. I can tell you for a fact that the MAX ticket you can get in Illinois is 40+ over the speed limit. If you're doing 123 in a 65 the ticket is written as 40+ over....Here's the catch. If the officier doesn't like you he can also write a wreckless driving ticket just for speeding. If he decided to write you this ticket it also means your motorcycle is impounded and you go straight to jail until you can post bail or have a hearing. No passing go. If you're deemed a flight risk(you aren't a U.S. citizen), good luck getting a bail bondsman to bail you out.

20+ over the speedlimit...hmm. maybe an average of $100-$150 in most states...
Get caught speeding in a construction zone...Some states have a MINIMUM $1000 fine and mandatory court date.

Lots of fines have gone up in the last few years. Bring PLENTY of cash. Some fines are $400!!!! Good Luck.

Thats what they do in OHIO. They can ask you to pay on the spot, and if you dont have the $$ (CC) they can take you in.

Im suprised noone from OHIO has rang in here yet.

The Illinois Senate just passed a bill to make speeding 30+ over a misdemeanor. Up to a year in jail and a $2500 fine. Add to that an impound and reckless driving ticket (If the officer decides to give you one) and you're looking at some serious $$$$.
