Consensus, Good or pass

I’ve heard of them but I haven’t heard they’re any better. Using Amsoil and K&N filters, I change my oil and filter every 5,000 miles and at $100, that would be a (lot) of regular filters.

Are these things any good?
Believe they filter a bit finer particals but you buy it for the look or that you will never need to buy another filter again. Like CBX said it would be the cost of several filters. I like the idea of it but always have other parts I want or need MORE.

Just bought one ($106 OTD) to arrive in time for upcoming oil change
  • Increased oil flow over paper filters
  • Inspectable - particle count and type (+ the add'l magnet built in)
  • Sustainable - although I'm not sure I can quantify the impact of the solvent used for cleaning the unit. Also the added cost of the solvent. Kerosene is ... $12/gallon, delivered? And figure a qt of kerosene per cleaning, so $3 per oil change ... that's maybe $9-12/yr. So, costwise I'll eventually come out ahead, and will find a way to recycle the solvent (mix it in with the oil I'm recycling??)

Does anything other than their website make these claims? And you change your oil 3-4 times a year? Oh and don’t mix solvent with oil that someone would like to recycle.

Good point(s):
Being able to see inside a used oil filter holds some promise, although I'm not sure I have the technical capability to benefit from such an inspection - unless it's large and ugly, at which point I have bigger probs! And I'll have to research recycling chemicals to see how it might be handled locally. I'm averaging close to 1,000 miles/month, so more than 2 oil changes/yr, most likely less than 4/yr - unless I can get up to Yosemite to bug you for a cup of coffee - that would make for the fourth oil change!

Arrived yesterday ...

Don't have a scale, but estimate this part to be 2x heavy as a KN-138, for example ... maybe more - for those weight conscious
