Powder coat > paint. And my rear sets are done in a textured powder coat that mimics the frame etc, and seems to stand up to abuse more than a smooth or glossy finish

I'm in the process. I sanded my oem down so they were smoother. Primed and one coat of paint so far. After a few coats, I'll clear coat them a couple coats and we'll see how long they last.
