changing brake line setup on the front brakes

anyone done this/heard of it?  here is an example

that is the way mine is set at now, but I need to get longer ones due to my reaper risers. the mechanic says that if I hit the throttle hard enough it good do some damage and I do not want to find out what that damage could be.
