catalytic converter removal?

is it possible to remove to cats off of stock exhaust and if so how involved is this process and what would the end result be?

Charles,in some of the 99's-00 there are Cat like chambers in the x-pipe and in all mid pipes there is that honeycomb lookin stuff you see in catylytic converters for cars.Pull one of your mids off and check it out,you cant see through them.
