After a recent encounter with gravel on a curvy road I totaled my busa. Fortunately I had full coverage insurance. But,now my Progressive agent is trying to get me to settle for $8,613. The bike was only 3 months old, and immaculate before the wreck. Anyone have any suggestions on how to negotiate with these guys?

These guys are still trying to jack me for $647 for the week that I used them for insurance. I agreed to no such thing. These guys are snakes.

Scew Progessive. They quoted me 12,000 dollars for a year policy. That's right 12,000 dollars. I am 34 spotless record and live in NY. My Statefarm agent charges me 1,100 dollars for the same policy. Aparently Progressive does not want to do buisness in NY which would explain the high cost of their quote. I would contact the state's insurance board and file a complaint and see where that takes you. The bike should not have depreciated that much in three months. Sorry for your loss and good luck.

State Farm, FL. paid me between $9500 &
$10 000 for my totalled 99 busa with 7k miles on it! It was new 7/3/99 and wrecked on 2/27/00. Why dont you use this info for comparison purposes against progressive. They even paid an extra $600 for a new helmet and $200 for leathers!

98% of all insurance companies always try to low ball you and see if you bite! I wrecked my 2k Thundercat this winter that was only 2 months old and they wanted to give me $7500.00 for it. Hmm I don't think so the sled new was over $10,000.00! After fighting back and forth and turning down three or four of there offers they settled for $9500.00 which was more then fair.

Stick it out and you should turn out OK!

Insurance cos here in the UK will replace the machine with a new one if it's totalled before it's first birthday.

My pops was almost killed on his Guzzi last year by an uninsured motorist. He had 100/300 + 100k UM/UIM with State Farm. He didn't even have to call them, they called him and cut the check for policy limits with no hassle. Insurance is pointless if you can't collect when you suffer a loss. Dump Progressive (everyone!) and go with State Farm.

BTW - I was told by my SF agent that in June/2000 State Farm changed the way they write motorcycle policies. Before you had to have a house and a car at the same residence to get good MC rates. This all changed in June, now it is easier to get a good quote. This won't help if you are young and have tickets but if you are clean, State Farm is the way to go. I still have my cage and house with Farmers beacuase SF couldn't beat my rate?

I had Progressive in 1999, heard bad things. Called State Farm, got better coverage (100/300), lower price $1,035 yr.

1 claim already on the bike for over 3000.00

I had progressive when I live in PA. When I moved to VA they dropped me because I didn't let them know a month ahead of time where I was moving two. Less then a week wasn't a proper amount of time they said. I said "Hey, I can spend my money elsewhere, no problem." Get this, about two years ago they called me because I had paid of my bikes. They wanted to know if I would consider thier insurance. Now that's what I call nerve. I did tell them to go to hell. Just for kicks, I called them to see how much they would insure the '00 Busa, it was around 1600.00 / yr. I pay 474.00 - Nationwide. phuc Progressive!

I had the same problem with my 99 ZX-1100
they wanted to give me 6800 I paid 9700 Bike only had 654 miles when someone stole it. To make a long story Short, I told them them do not have to give me a penny just get me a 99 ZX-1100 Candy red with chrome wheels, polished frame, and chrome footpegs, if they could find one for 6800 I would be happy to jump on it. After 3 days they told me to come get a check for 9400

Thanks for the help they have agreed (after a lot of negotiating) to pay 9750 + TTL + accessories. I have still not seen the check, but I thought this was fair.

red,
I have a dealer set to offer 9999 for new busas arriving Friday. He is getting 8, up to 20... Email me at cartman_68@mindspring.com

maybe we can get a better deal together? I have another friend also getting one. There is a dealer in Atlanta, but they will only go 10,900. even after I told them of my friend buying one too. They are only getting 4 and will sell them at a premium price.

Any insurance company will try to get away with what ever they can, facts of life, they are there to make money and not claims. My 2cents. It's call legalized WHITE COLLAR CRIME.
