I paid about $9100 for my '04 and then happily paid the $600 in prep, freight and doc fees for a total of $9700 out the door.

I paid taxes on $9100 since prep, freight and doc fees can't be taxed.

My guess is I paid their cost for the bike and they made their profit off the fees which is cool with me.

You paid below cost on the bike and the dealer made the cost up on the set-up charges. I did the same thing last week and sold a K7 GSXR for $11920.00 out the door saving a $160 in taxes alone.
