Anyone know what to do about heavy rider

Hey guys, I am going to have a little time to work on my rear shock due to the fact that Pirelli wont have my rear tire for another 60days

, SO I figure I should do a little rear suspension work.
I am 285 lbs {6'4"

}and my wife is around 130 so thats a combined weight of over 400lbs I would like to tune my suspension for around 460lbs of load. Does anyone know where I should start, Change the spring revalve anything?, just looking for some direction..
As far as suspension all I have is a front lowering tree and a set of threaded lowering links.
Oh and the bike is going to be lowered 1.5"'s with a 240 rear tire kit thats going to be pulled out 5"'s.
{so as you can tell IM not going to be drilling any hairpin corners any time soon}

Given your write forget negotiating speedbumps of any height. Air suspension might fit your needs. You could adjust between solo rides and wife rides. You almost sound like the average rider. I've seen a couple 400 pound dudes riding.

I'm not really answering your question, but i'm 240 and my wife is 130 and we have ridden with loaded saddlebags. I've never changed a thing and don't plan to. The bike rides and handles good with both of us, and I don't ride slow.

So I am 6"4', 290 and the wife falls in the same range as your wife.

I am lowered 2 inches with no stretch and ride all day with no issues.

I did stiffen up the shock with the factory adjustment.

Let me know what you find out on an upgrade or rebuild option, the guys around here (local shops) claim I can send them off with my weight and riding style and they will set everything up for me.

I did see some aftermarket complete shocks for around 900

I have their Axiom kit in the front and a revalved/resprung stock rear.

I come in at 340 n0 gear and it is one of the best improvements I have ever had done to my machine.

I did see some aftermarket complete shocks for around 900
I ride with a young group most of the time and these guys weight in 170 - 230. All of them have slammed their bikes and bottom out when riding hitting bumps and doing stupid shid like driving of a sidewalk. But in normal use they complain about bottoming out. With gear I weight easily 270 and have the factory settings and have never had a problem and I get under my bike now and again, no scratches.

With the stretch and all You might won't to slam it with dog bones and a strap. Try it and see if you like it before going with air. I haven't heard anything good about air except it's great for looking sexy and show bikes. You're already stretching it and probably aren't that concerned about great handling. Try it the cheap way and then go expensive if you wish.

Great poll question guys: do you weight between 100 and 150, 150 and 200, 200 and 250, 250 and 300, greater than 300.

+1 on Traxxion, we will use them for all of our suspension service. A re-sprung and re-valved OEM set up is a great bang for the buck.

I actually picked up the shock from the board here already done.

Mike offed a group buy last year on the front valving. I do believe it retails for $795.00.

That includes springs for your weight and riding style and the valving.

Give him a call and see what he can do for you.

+1 about Traxxion. Those guys do great work.

I've got the Axxion kit in the forks (resprung/revalved), and an Elka triple adjustable on the rear. Fantastic stuff!

Air suspension is good for cruising but sucks for handling - no rebound dampening
