anyone here have a 2001 bandit 1200 ?

i was thinking of picking up a 1200 bandit to use for riding 2 up .

i located a silver 2001 1200s localy and i was really wanting it until someone had told me that the 2001 bandits had a bad cylinder design and they burn oil .

any feedback on this would be greatly apreciated

I had a 2002 bandit 12 and can honestly say it was a blast , totally reliable and bullet proof , never a single problem - ridden in all weathers and garaged outdoors . If I had a choice of a second bike guess what it would be... an R1 .. only joking . A hooligans bike..

I have a buddy with a 1200 Bandit and he does have a oil consumption problem....I'm not sure if he said it's a piston or cylinder problem.

Other than using oil it has been a great bike.

I had a '01 and yes there is a problem with oil burning. It's a problem with the pistons design and I had to have mine replaced at around 800 miles. Once that was done I actually enjoyed the bike and had a great time with all the MOD's. There are all kinds of things you can do with that old GSX-R 1100 motor. I think that Suzuki was replacing pistons no questions asked for a while.
