So I spend $100 bucks for a stainless steel license plate mount(axle, sideways type), put it on, then ride up into the mountains, come back....and it's gone, plate and all! It cracked right down the "lazer cut" kanji logo. I am one of the few that just don't like to cover up my cool undertail with a mount, plate, lights, etc. so the following is my invention.
If you're totally happy with where your plate is now, then maybe this thread isn't for you.
I bought a 2" x 2" piece of aluminum stock, cut it to a length just shorter than the width of a license plate, then began trimming it (hack saw, fine blade). When shaped, I then beveled the edges (big file). Next I drilled it for plate and mounting hole(see pictures). Finally, before assembling, I used 1000 emory paper(Harbor Freight), then Mother's Mag/Aluminum polish.
