Aluminum or Steel rear Sprocket?

Sorry after reading what I had post I thought someone might misunderstand it.
I take 8 to 11 sprockets with me to the track and I do not know which one I'll use so it is easier for me to pack alum. instead of steel.

What is the perfered metal of choice for the rear sprocket on the busa? What metal is the stock 40t?
Any help would sure be apreciated.
Thanks

Stock is steel. Aluminum is lighter and may look better with polishing or anodizing, but it will take a beating as far as wear and you will be replacing it soon with the power and torque of the 1300.

Where is the speedometer taking its information from. Does the rear sprocket change affect this? oh yeah, and does going up 2 teeth necessitate a new chain?

This seems like a great cheap mod for more low end grunt in all gears.

...my Al sprocket is opened up after 1000 miles, still useable but shot...stock engine....no wheelies or burn outs but lots of gas...

hapo, thats why I like steel.I didn't think I would have to change them that often:that's the way I ride,I guess thats that.

mr. cheese, thanks for the reply. Well, the busa speedo is off by about 10% already. This should make it worse right?

Where can i get a steel sprocket and what size is up 2 teeth? a 42?

Hapo, new sprockets = new chain. Be fair.

A chain can't be judged because it looks good.

Dymag only offers Aluminum "Talon" sprockets from the UK.

Aluminum is short lived on a BUSA, So just slow down before you wear out the whole bike!

JohnnyCheese,

Correct me if I am wrong, but the mph is actually generated from a speedometer sensor located on the countershaft cover. I thought that it "sensed" countershaft rotation, not gear rotation.

Regardless, it is calibrated at the factory for the stock gearing. If you're having problems with correct mph and mileage readings, then try:

http://centauri.ezy.net.au/~fastvid/yelbox.htm

They have a nifty little yellow box for adjusting the speedometer sensor. It allows for as much as +/- 25% tuning which is a lot. I have read where some users have gotten as much as .27% accuracy on their speedo's by using this box.

That's about as accurate as you can get.
