New steel rear sprocket...

it's replacing a 45 tooth which is peppy it should be just a little more peppy... when winter roles around i'll put a 17 in front... should be REALLY peppy after that might have to go back to an ultra soft tire so it hooks up...

came today to replace the P.O.S. aluminum one thats on there now 46 tooth...

Please post up a photo of your P.O.S. aluminum sprocket. We have been running Vortex aluminum sprockets for years with no ill issues. Of all the racers I know who run aluminum sprockets, I have never heard one complaint. If you truely have a problem with aluminum, I'd like to see the results!


For the fella who says he has friends who has disintegrated aluminum sprockets, please post up photos and details. What manufacturer made these sprockets, how many friends had this problem, pictures of the crash, injuries involved, pending law suits, etc. Help us poor souls who have never had this problem protect ourselves from disaster!

I had a stock geared Vortex on my turbo bike for about 3k, I didnt notice anything until I changed my rear tire. It was mushrooming out were the chain makes contact with the sprocket. I still have it laying in a scrap pile in my brothers garage. I'll post a pic of it in the next couple of days.

I don't think the Aluminum sprockets are junk, just not deseigned for high hp. I think my next sprocket may be a sidewinder, tri metal sprocket. Maybe those will offer the benefits of Al and steel.

The Vortex Rep actually told me that even their F5 sprocket is not made for Busas. Steel all the way for me.

I think alot has to do with proper cleaning and adjustment, when I was down south this may with some other B-Kings, My friend had the same amount of miles on his 45 tooth vortex as I have on mine, his was completely junk, about to break teeth, but mine has over 5,000 miles and still looks great,

I clean my chain and sprocket with wd-40, then use chain wax and properly adjust, I keep my chains tighter then most and have always had great sprocket and chain life.

I used an aluminum sprocket once. It was for a 70hp sv650 about 7 years ago. After a few thousand miles, 5 of the teeth were missing. I bought it from sprocket specialists. I don't know if their still around, but I never bought another aftermarket sprocket either.
