My 2011, brought new does this.
Not all the time just sometimes.
I've read on here it is normal.
But I may be wrong.

Normal.

Don't think I have ever owned a bike that does not do that occasionally. If you are in neutral, just let out the clutch and then try again.

Yep, same here. Not very often, but occasionally. As said, just release clutch and try again. I always hold the brake, just in case!

This issue will slowly get better as you put miles on the bike but will never go away completely. If you downshift through the gears as you slow down it usually doesn't happen. If you coast to a stop and then try to shift down a couple of gears to first it will happen. You may also notice it's easy to miss the 1-2 shift if you don't shift up firmly and this to will improve. I have 40K on mine and she shifts like butter. Synth oil helps but don't switch over until your second scheduled oil change.

Happens to me as well, more annoying than anything especially in heavy traffic!
