As far as I know 17 is the largest that they make unless you hae one custom made.

I just don't get why anyone would go for taller gearing when the bike can't even make redline in top gear. Other than for those who are way over stock hp and want to run Bonneville, I would like to understand the need.

Remember that when you are looking for sprockets, GSXR750 part will bolt right up. Yes you are correct about sprocket specialists, the larget they make is 17.

I have not found a manuf. that does 18.

I don't think here is worried about pulling redline (he got 200+ hp), it's the stress on the engine parts I'll bet.

thats it! "hp"

when you have the hp to pull you & the bike, you have to gear for it!

same thing when you add nitrous or a turbo

the deal with a stock motor is, they set it up to turn the big impressive 190 to 200 mph.
and thats probably why they added another gear(6th) on this bike. and thats why it's running through the traps in 3rd gear

thing is, who care about how many mph's the bike will run? unless your turbo rick.(no offense)

what i'm saying is that most guys just want a fast 1/4 mile bike. something that will pull the front wheel without ripping the clutch out of it.
