1/8th mile oops today

Well, I was having fun today, my launches were feeling a lot better, only bogged once (prob while trying to break old poor launch habits). My gearing is changed up to 17/45 from 16/45 and changes to the rear suspension were made that made a big difference. Best today was a 6.43 at 115.77 mph, 1.64 60ft, 4.30 330ft, right before almost looping my bike I broke the windscreen with my helmet and ran my bike down hanging from the bars while trying not to twist the throttle any and I managed to keep it on it's wheels. I was a tad shaken and don't remember if i logged that run but i know i was wot damn quick. I need to look and see. The nose cone has a hairline crack somewhat near the left windscreen screw and I lost the nut on the bottom of the clutch lever bolt. Oh, and gotta clean all that brown streaking off the tail section, lol. I noticed right off when running my bike at my shop to clear out the mr12 after the excitement that the clutch lever was squishy right at the top. Then I saw where the clutch lever bolt was sticking way up and the nut was missing. I don't recall any squish in the lever when I pulled up to the line though so maybe it happened when the front came back down. I was a little shaken and will go out to the shop tomorrow for a closer inspection.

Overall things turned out better than they could have. My ego was hurt more than anything and I've been thinking all evening about what all I did and where I went wrong but it all happened so fast. Thanks Draco for your suspension advice. It felt pretty good. I have my stock windscreen put away i can use and some epoxy for the nose cone and hope to get back in the saddle weekend after next.

Might check those forks and make sure you didn't blow a seal or two. Glad you saved it.

Where did you run the bike at? Idalou? What all mods have been done? How much you weigh?

Ran it at Cannan, I believe Idalou may not make a come back but I haven't been keeping up with it really.

I'm glad the bikes not hurt either, I could take a little road rash but if the bike was tore up i would be an angry angry man right now, lol. I just can't imagine how i let it get away like that and thats what bothers me the most. I noticed with that clutch bolt backed out and sticking up like it was, the clutch lever took considerably less travel for it to fully engage the clutch. I'm starting to believe that the clutch lever incident was possibly occuring when i launched the last time, therefore the clutch fully engaged early with me wot. Hell, i've made well over 100 passes on that bike and ive always kept my stuff under control. I've road out plenty of wheelies and I've backed out of several too. That just happened extremely quick

Might check those forks and make sure you didn't blow a seal or two. Glad you saved it.

Thanks for the tip, I looked right after it happened and it seems as though the seals survived, I was shocked. Like I said though, I haven't made a real thorough inspection and I'm hoping theres not much more damage than what I saw right after. I rode it around a minute after I got back to my shop to clear the MR12 out and i didn't notice anything unusual except the clutch lever bolt

Hmmm...not sure where that track is. Happen to know the DA the day you ran? Your weight? Have you had much seat time on the bike or dragraced much? A Busa is a quick bike at the track! Keep it up and log more seat time and you'll be suprised at the gains you'll see.

It had only ever been street ridden and had 8K mi on it so maybe the basket had some notches or the OEM lockup hub was keeping it from being smooth. Was fun though. He wants me to take it back to the track for him sometime. May just have to do that...

I dunno what the DA was that day. It was fairly cool at 72 but the humidity was up a little bit. Last year and this season is all the drag racing experience I have with a bike. I have made a lot of passes and have a lot of improving to do. Last year everything was all new and I did more running than trying to learn from each run. I decided to do things a lot different this year and get the most out of each pass. Yesterday I was getting better off the line. I was working on riding the clutch out a little further to quit bogging, I was working on at least trying to get wot by the 60' and I was working on pre-loading the clutch between pre-stage and stage. We had a pretty good side wind for a little while which sucked when the front end would come up. I'm getting pretty consistent in the 6.40's now and last season that only happened a handful of times towards the end of the season. I was shooting for a 6.35-6.40 run yesterday as I was getting a little quicker and a little quicker when things went sour.

Well, though the air may have seemed decent, i doubt it was. Idalou rarely has a DA of less than 3000ft if i recall correctly. That will hurt your time and mph but with your weight(or lack thereof lol), i would think you would pull more mph. I pulled 116mph on the stone stk 08 i rode and i was just over 200 suited. I did have the throttle pinned right at the line though. The bike had stk gearing(17/43 i believe?) and i really needed more with my weight. The best i did was 6.30 @ 116mph w/ 1.60 60'. I had not been on a bike of any kind in two years when i rode that one and i only got 5 passes. All were in the 6.3's(one 6.30, two 6.31's and i think mid 6.3's for the other two). I've been a best of 6.17 in Abilene on my old 04 LE Busa back when i was running alot. My 60's were much better(1.52-1.55's) at stk wheelbase and even managed 115mph with it in excellent air(for Abilene) with stk exhaust/no PC and 87 pump.
I might have to make the drive up to your neck of the woods some time and maybe i could watch you and see what you are doing and possibly offer a little help if you like?

That would be awesome if you could come show me some things, I'm all for learning. I would like to be back in the saddle weekend after next. They will be running every other weekend from here out. Gonna look her over good asap this week. Im sure ill have to get teched in again after all this garbage, lol. I have car guys trying to help me out and while I know they are quite knowledgable about cars, I have a feeling bikes are a little different in some aspects. I was told I need more gear and more gear til I was 16/45 to correct the bog and when that didn't fix it I decided to back off the gearing and use the clutch more and the results are better and more consistent et. I had a 6.47 at 116.4, 1.68 60' and a 6.48 at 114 1.71 60' yesterday too. So yeah, it would be cool if you felt like helping out. Lubbock is at a little over 3k in elevation starting out, not sure where the da was but I'm aware it gets really awful here at times. Stock gear is 18/43 on second gen. I had the suggestion brought up to put a wheelie bar on, but I just don't want a wheelie bar bike. Could I go faster safer? Oh yeah, I'm sure. I want to learn to ride what I have though and I'm hard headed enough I'll work past this wheelie incident and get better. I want to ride what I have to it's full potential before making any big changes. Where you from? You been in the drag scene a while I assume?

It will prolly be a bit before i can get up there. Prolly in May or so. I have alot going on next month. I may be able to help some. I would imagine your having fits with wheelies with the gearing you have.

work in progress i guess you might say. i have an mr9 map that i just richened up some and i went from there. ive been logging and making changes from that point. I would imagine the mph issues im having has as much if not more to do with my amatuer ass sitting in the pilot seat. you run mr12 much? you notice a big difference between that and mr9? i ran mr9 once at the texas mile and it gained me several mph. thats the only time ive run mr9 though. i bought this mr12 6 months ago (approx) for the october texas mile and ended up not being able to go, so i left the lid sealed on it and popped it open about 2 weeks ago to use at the drag strip since it would just go to waste if i didn't. my tuning ability is far from any johnny cheese tune or anything but im working at it. if you have any suggestions in that department im all ears

What rpm you launching at? IMO, you should be pulling 116-118mph on pump gas at your weight and your altitude. I would ask Brock for a map for an altitude of 3000-5000ft for whatever fuel your gonna run.(I believe you mentioned having Brock's pipe)
Without seeing you run, I'm guessing you are not getting to full throttle in 1st gear til way past the tree? The sooner you get to WOT, the more mph you will pull.

This weekend I was launching around 4000-4500. I still haven't checked my logs to see how long it's taking me to get wot but I'm interested to see. I went to my shop today to survey the damage and I don't see anything other than what I already had noted. I didn't have a computer on me but will go tomorrow evening and plug in. I'll let you know what I find.

I don't like mr-12 due to u have to drain it expensive for the gain u get IMO. A guy hear locally that run it might be mrx01. He post in the board sometimes aka Superdave. Has a swb 08 that runs 5.90@124/125 he great rider.

David Gebhardt(Superdave) is definetly a great rider and a great guy to boot. That 5.90 @ 124-125mph would be a 6.0-6.1 @ 121-122mph up where r1d3on3 is running. I lost .1 in the 1/8 and 2mph when i moved from East Texas to out here running in Abilene(in as good as the air gets out here) and r1d3on3 is another 1000ft up. Was a real bummer not seeing good times and mph like i was used to. Riding out here then going closer to sea level is a real "eye opener" too! Its like the bike gains 10-15hp down low. Takes a few passes to get used to launching as well! Have to tone down the lauch aggressiveness a good bit. At least it did for me.

I sent a request to Brocks this morning for a map. I wouldn't be surprised however if they didn't have one since I'm running Bazzaz. They are real limited on maps for that unit was my last experience with that. I really appreciate yall's help and suggestions. Maybe one of these days I can pass it on.

Also, wonder what the chances are of a bent wheel after coming down from a 12:00 wheelie at a very slow roll? Tire was prob 40 lbs air and front strapped down pretty tight. It came down pretty hard. Another thing I need to look at...
