Old Busa 17/40 = 2.35 ratio
New Busa 18/43 = 2.38 ratio
Larger sprockets will put less strain on the chain.

(Pipefighter248 @ Jul. 04 2007,08:54) Old Busa 17/40 = 2.35 ratio

So would this be a better ratio to use if considering a 520 chain conversion?

Doesn't mean anything until you know the ratios of the gear box. Could be no change at all or something different depending on what they did inside the tranny.

Also a 520 conversion probably isn't the smartest idea for this big a bike, too much torque and not enough tensile strength with a 520.

If it uses the same tranny ratios as the 99-07 then that will put it at 198mph in 6th -vs- 201mph.

However, with less stress on everything and the better ratio, it will be a little quicker.

17/40 speeds..
1st- 80
2nd- 108
3rd- 137
4th- 163
5th- 184
6th- 201

18/43 speeds...
1st- 79
2nd- 106
3rd- 135
4th- 160
5th- 181
6th- 198

Personally, I like it because it's much quicker/easier to swap out a rear sprocket for top speed than a front one...

I understand that is accepted doctrine, but there are 520 chains out there with tensile strength far in excess of both stock and most aftermarket 530 chains.
