Took a few pictures of the bike at the dealership and when I up-loaded then I noticed a blue link on the chain. Talked to a good friend of mine (actually several) and they all state that because of the power the Busa has it's supposed to come with a solid chain and that maybe the dealership is taking short-cuts.

So before I go to the dealership to rant'n rave I'd like to know the facts on this...

Thanks in advance guys!

Don't know about that bro... I thought it was normal (mine has it too). I have had all my GSXR friends say that they can't believe how BIG/THICK the Busa chain is.

it's factory, do your buddies realize how many built Busa's out there are running 2 master links so they can go back and forth on wheelbase. A soild chain has nothing to do with hp.

I'm not sure what that picture is supposed to show but all chains have master links, period. All chains are manufactured from links to form longer chains. The process of pressing a master link by hand is essentially the same as the machine that does it at the factory, just as strong,just slower. God, imagine what a pain in the ass it would be to change that thing if it came linked.

Makes it way easier to locate the master link.

Fair enough guys, sounds like I'll not need to worry over nothing... should've know better then to get advise from (my buds) Kawi riders. ;-)

Now I can say I'm a little bit more informed then I was so, many thanks to those who answered.

As said above, Blue to help locate the master link quicker!
Rivet style to handle the HP our bikes make and yes its factory...

There are no bad questions! But, there are lots of Good answers to be found here!

Chains can be bought as a continuous loop.
Granted doing so escallates the difficulty of installation to include swing arm removal.
The manual on a 2003 Bandit 1200 advises not to use a master linked chain. (That bike uses a 530 chain too)it appeared to be continuous with no colored link.
I did run a clip type master link on a Bandit and one day I did lose the chain due to broken master link.
So I bought a Rivet link tool and have had no further problems.
I once read that dirt can build up under the clip and eventually work the clip off the link.
As for the Busa if you look close you will see the rivets in the Blue link are a little different, I would agree this link was installed when the factory installed the chain on the bike as a rivet type master link.
The shop manual for the Busa details replacing the chain using a rivet tool, but does not comment on the Blue link.
If I recall the stress in a string, cable, chain etc is determined by the equation Stress = PL / AE
P = Load
L = Length
A = cross sectional area
E = Youngs modules, a property of the material

So from the above one can see the stress gets increased if the length of the chain is increased.

So if you are one of those drag racers who length the swing arm and correspondingly the chain you have increased the stress in the chain. The same person might make engine modifications that would increase P in the above creating yet more stress in the chain.

The Busa at nearly 200 hp is runing the same size chain but longer than the Bandit 1200 at bearly 100hp. So I would expect it to stretch quicker if materials are the same.

I have adjusted (Small adjustments) 3 times on the 08 Busa in just 3,400 miles.

Without crunching real numbers one might be concerned if the Busa chain is strong enough for significant modifications.

We use DID Chains and rivet the link in.. over 500 HP and no trouble. We dont like 2 links in our chains, 2 weak points instead of 1..

I don't see the dealer popping off the stock chains and replacing with a cheaper one to try and sell the original to someone else.

Man, I just noticed your lighted valve stem caps, be extremely careful with those on there, I had a set on my 04LE and they ripped the stems out of the wheel. I would not use them if I where you. BE CAREFUL!
