Is anybody else following this story? I don't understand how our government sits back while a U.S. marine war veteran is chained to a bed in a cell in the worst prison in Mexico on false charges. I read somewhere that the U.S. gave Mexico 317 million in foreign aid last year, but they balk at the notion of returning one of our veterans or even giving him a fair trial. They denied him a translator at his hearing while my tax dollars ensure there is a translator for any foreign language provided in this country to every non citizen tried. How did America become reduced to this? Countries do not fear or respect us anymore no matter how much money we give them. We are soft and everybody knows it. This really gets under my skin that America has turned it's back on this veteran who served a tour in Iraq and Afganistan to be politically correct and not offend Mexico with demands. Go over there and get Jon Hammar out using whatever force necessary and tell the UN to kiss our :moon:

Who knows.. Diplomacy is dead and maybe they are even letting him linger there because of all the working people from Mexico that are imprisoned here on charges of working illegally. Pretty bogus on both sides if you ask me.

This is unreal! He could be free'd with a phone call, but no, they're too busy taking our guns and playing politics. Its a disgrace.

Hope ya sleep well in your big comfy bed Obama while one on the soldiers the helped make it possible for you to be elected is chained up in third world country.

I've been following this story for some time and I'm fit to be tied. This marine is being held just 12 miles from the border since August for being up front with an antique Sears Robuck 410 gauge shotgun at the border.

It's appearing to me that this president is not very fond of the country's military!

I'd like to see the US boycott all products made in Mexico as well as tourism til this guy is released.

He broke the law, he is in jail because of it. He should have known the rules and regulations when going into another country, regardless if civilian or military member. He wasn't acting in the capacity as a military personnel, he was carrying out his civilian life at the time. He is afforded the same rights there me and you would be. The military doesn't have to do anything as he not a POW or MIA from a war there. We must hold all people accountable for their actions...

Let's say he was mexican and part of the mexican military and came into the usa, without knowingly bringing a shotgun into the usa was a crime. he was arrested and jailed in singh singh, would you be posting right now? Would you want his goverment to intervine in laws we must abide by? what if he was mexican and came here and actually commited a violent crime? What if he did it there, would you be wanting the same?

we can't want the citizens of this land or any land to not break a law in the usa , but should be allowed to break them in other countries.. I'm ex-military so I will support any brothers in arms doing right....I will support all that's right in anything, before I put my feelings first.

Look at the solidier in the brig at Ft Lewis for killing all those people in afghanistan, was it right or wrong, should the military where he commited the crimes be okay with it? Our Military isn't....

He followed the countries protocol!!! He had papers, he crossed the border with permission! Did you not hear that part?
My best friend (X- Marine) was killed in 2007 on his motorcycle by an ilegal mexican who made an ilegal left turn and also had NO drivers liscense.

His sister faught and fought with the legal system, and ya know what happened when that ilegal when he killed my best friend? NOTHING a slap on the wrist for no drivers liscense and a false imagration card!!!!!! So dont even start with your BS!!!!!

A New Brunswick man was killed Tuesday night after he was ejected from his motorcycle when a car struck him, police said.

Joseph Iwanski, 35, was traveling north on Commercial Avenue shortly after 9 p.m. when a 1998 Ford Escort traveling in the opposite lane made a left turn and struck his 2004 Ducati motorcycle, police said.

Iwanski was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, police said. An autopsy will be performed today.

The driver of the Escort, Daniel Bernal, 32, of Hightstown, is being held at the Middlesex County jail in North Brunswick in lieu of $20,000 bail on the charge of presenting a fake resident alien card, police said. Charges are pending from the accident after officers have completed their investigation.

WE SHOULD BOYCOTT buying anything from you Golden. Thats a very ignorant comment to this case!

Golden, you may have not heard the whole story. He was instructed by U.S. Customs officers on proper procedure and he followed it. He is being charged with having a Mexican military rifle which is illegal. It was an antique 410.

You guys need to chill out or I will pull the thread. Anytime you post something for discussion not matter what the topic or how you feel about it, invites for other opinions. Daniel has a point, Lankee has a point. Discuss with respect or out it goes.

Least it wasnt a Fast & Furious gun, which if your keeping track at home are A-okay to move across the border :banghead:

The State Department needs to get their head out of their azz (but, after Benghazi, i'm not surprised) and have him repremanded to US Custody. Otherwise, Fort Bliss is what, 15 miles form the border?

I just got a notification from Fox News saying he will be released.

wouldn't you want to follow the mexican procedure and not the american one if your going to mexico, sounds like the american procedure is wrong then.

Taking firearms into Mexico

In regards to bringing firearms to Mexico, Title III, Chapter III, Article 55 of the Federal Law of Firearms and Explosives states:
(translated) Weapons, objects and materials refereed in this law imported under ordinary or extraordinary permits, must be destined precisely to the use stated in given permits. Any modification, change or transformation different to the stated purpose, requires a new permit.
Additionally, Title III, Chapter III, Article 59 of the Federal Law of Firearms and Explosives states:
(translated) Temporary import and export of firearms and ammunition for hunting and shooting sport tourists, must be vested by the appropriate extraordinary permit, which shall indicate the conditions that must be met in accordance to the regulation of this law.
Under these articles, those who intend to engage in hunting and shooting sport activities in Mexico, must first obtain the required temporary import permit from the Secretariat of National Defense prior to traveling to Mexico.
Similarly, it is possible for Mexican citizens who reside in Mexico and foreign legal residents of Mexico (FM2 holders) to import a firearm into Mexico for their security and legitimate defense, under the types and calibers permitted for home defense and after receiving the appropriate import permit from the Secretariat of National Defense. It should be noted that whomever intends to import a firearm to Mexico must be able to legally acquire the firearm outside Mexico. For example, a US citizen who lawfully resides in Mexico as a FM2 holder or who holds dual nationality could purchase a firearm in the United States and request permission to import the weapon to Mexico. Since the person is eligible to legally purchase a firearm in the United States and he or she is eligible to reside in Mexico, they could be allowed to import the weapon.

WARNING: The US Department of State warns US citizens against taking any firearm or ammunition into Mexico without prior written authorization from the Mexican authorities. Entering Mexico with a firearm, or even a single round of ammunition, carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, even if the firearm or ammunition is taken into the country unintentionally.[21] In practice, however, for a first offense, offenders will be fined around one-thousand dollars, their vehicles will be confiscated, and they will be deported for a period of one year.

I found this online , the same way this soldier could have. He nor you are above the law and will get what's rightfully deserved if you break the law and are caught.

From what I have read; not to be confused with the facts. Mexican authorities aren't even sure if he has violated their laws. Apparently he was going small game hunting with his handed down 410 shotgun.

i read that he got nailed because his gun was cut off and one inch shorter than their laws allow. thats where they got him, they could have took it and sent him home but they didnt, they chose to arrest him. Sorrry but these days you want to go into that country, best of luck to ya and don't expect people to come running when you get screwed.
