About halfway through reading this I could hear the cheer coming from the Right Bandwagon and I knew I by the end would I would be in a fetal position clinching a blanket and sucking my thumb. Here are a lot of good examples of poor judgment and possible wrong doings. As I finished the read, reality stepped back in I and said to myself, “self, this response came from the Right so something has to be wrong”. Because it came from the Right it is either:
a) A half truth
b) A lie
c) The answer to a totally different question
So Bandwagoneers please hold your applause. Since you took the time to write all of this I feel obligated to respond.
Solyndra. The administration loaned the solar panel company some $500m, even after the company’s miserable record of terrible management was obvious. The company went bankrupt. But to add icing to the nasty crapcake, more emails have come out from top officials proposing lending the company an added $69m – after their impending bankruptcy became evident – to prop the company up. The rationale was that an implosion of Solyndra would create bad “political optics.” In other words, it would make Obama look bad during his re-election campaign.
So he threw money into a failing company so that he wouldn’t look bad. Bad, but no new or different policy than any other president Dem or Rep. Remember Bush threw more money into a war that we weren’t even supposed to be in. (The Surge)
Gibson. Obama’s Justice Department raided the guitar manufacturer because they were using illegal wood. Actually, the wood was legal before it was illegal. But Gibson, whose execs issued a scathing press release denouncing the raid and appropriately defending themselves, had all the requisite permits. Turns out, according to an archaic law, the wood was illegal according to Indian standards (where the wood came from). But, if the wood had been refined by Indians in India, it would be legal. Obama to Gibson: you should’ve given the work to foreigners.
I am pretty sure Obama doesn’t have a personal vendetta against Gibson and I doubt he was on the phone giving the green light for the raid. But if he did give the green light it would have been due to bad intel. Bad intel, sounds familiar? Bad, but no new or different policy than any other president Dem or Rep.
Boeing. Obama’s NLRB is stacked with liberals just like a Jenga tower leaning toward leftist oblivion. Recently they told Boeing the giant manufacturer couldn’t build a new plant in South Carolina, employing thousands of additional American workers, because the once-venerable board thought maybe they chose the state because it’s right-to-work. The House, at the urging of the Society for Human Resource Management, recently passed a bill limiting the powers of the NLRB to do these sorts of things. The GOP should wave this bill like a badge of honor.
The NLRB or government agency was ordered to overstep its authority y the Pres. Bad, but no new or different policy than any other president Dem or Rep.
Wisconsin. Obama dispatched his flying monkeys to Wisconsin during this state’s budget battle. His goal: keep the unions propped up because, with the new law, members were no longer being forced to buy their service. If the unions’ service was so good, why do people need to be forced to buy in? The law has since saved school districts around the state lots of money, often more than Walker’s “draconian” cuts that were poised to cause chaos, devastation and ruin. None of these doomsday predictions panned out, and the liberal media is now in stunned silence.
First of all I am no fan of Unions; in fact I fought very hard against forming one at a previous job. But, this is America, home of Free Enterprise and Capitalism. In a way a Union is like an insurance company. They provide a service and get paid for it. People are forced to buy this service just like we are forced to by another service in order to drive our vehicles. Free Enterprise at its best. Now dispatching the flying monkeys to prop up a cause or ideal sound like invading a country to give them democracy. Should the people of another country be forced into our way of thinking? No new or different policy than any other president Dem or Rep.
Operation Fast and Furious. Guns + Mexican drug lords + bad execution = bad news. Don’t tell me the admin’s top officials didn’t know. If they did, they’ve lied about it under oath. The choice is either bad decisionmaking/amateurish execution or incompetence.
In the same breath did you ask if Reagan knew Ollie was selling tanks and coke? That would make Reagan’s choice either bad/amateurish or incompetent.
General Electric. Obama’s jobs czar Jeff Immelt is also the CEO of GE, which has sent untold jobs overseas in the past decade. They also got a massive multi-billion dollar tax refund last year. While the refund was according to established law, it all reinforces how Obama’s policies benefit the well-connected and harm those not fortunate, rich or powerful enough to buy a seat at the table.
So Obama’s policy of letting corporations legally use the Bush Tax Cuts is bad? Am I missing something here? So instead of raising taxes he should just not let us use the breaks and deductions already in place? By the way, who was president when those untold jobs went overseas?
LightSquared. This company wanted to establish a nationwide 4G phone network that could interfere with domestic military GPS. Obama’s people allegedly pressured Gen. William Shelton to water down his testimony before Congress about the project’s impact. Shockingly, LightSquared is an Obama ally who’s made plenty of political contributions.
Allegedly is a far cry from truth, but since the allegedly is truth enough for the right I guess we should go with it.
New Black Panthers. When members of the “shady” group stood outside a polling place with clubs during the 2008 election, I was reminded of the rise of fascism in 1920s Italy. Obama’s corrupt Justice Department declined to prosecute the blantant voter intimidation case.
An investigation revealed that the Republican Party of New Mexico called up registered voters during the 2000 and 2004 elections, claiming to be the Democratic Party and telling them the election had been moved to Wednesday. An apology for accidently calling democrats and a promise was given not let it happen again to avoid prosecution. Guess what accident happened in 2008 with not prosecution. So I guess he let both groups of thugs get away with it. Bad, but no new or different policy than the previous president.
Arizona. When the failure of the feds to enforce border security hit a tipping point, Arizona took action. Under the Constitution, it’s the job of the federal government to ensure border security and maintain a tranquil homeland. Instead of ramping up border security, Obama sued Arizona. Similar cases are erupting in other states, some non-border.
If I remember correctly there were several upgrades to the southern border in the area of surveillance equipment, physical barriers and border personnel during the previous administration. With all those things border security reached a tipping point. Was that a waste of money or is it a reflection of the previous administration’s ability to do the job right.
Under Obama, the National Guard has been permanently dispatched to help provide security at the border. Sounds like he was doing something to help fix the problem. Also, states that don’t even have a boarder to another country enacted similar strategies as Arizona. All of these states have Rep. Governors. So, it would be my guess that something else is brewing here.
ACORN. Dead people voting alongside cartoon characters? When you’re a community organizer by trade, you can’t disenfranchise these two very important constituencies.
Come on, voter fraud. ACORN doesn’t own the patent for that nor did they invent it. That crap has nothing to do with the President. Do you really want me to dig up info on republican candidates guilty of that?
Defense cuts. Under the radar (to the disgrace of American media) Obama has cut hundreds of billions from the Defense budget since he took office. One of the core duties of the federal government under the Constitution is to provide for national defense. With these and planned cuts, Obama is handing over the keys to global hegemony to China. Better learn to speak Mandarin.
Spending the most money on defense doesn’t mean you have the strongest or best military. I remember someone giving praise to Reagan for winning the Cold War because he got the Russians to over spend on defense. When you have better weapons you don’t need as many.
QE2. In this scheme, the Federal Reserve buys debt from the US Treasury to prop up interest rates. In the meantime, the value of the dollar falls in the future. Any economist can tell you this amounts to a pay cut, because our dollars will have far less spending power if inflation takes off. Instead of reigning in government spending, Obama has levied this un-reported tax on everyone, hitting the poor hardest.
In 1995 the exchange rate of the dollar to YEN was 356/1. In 1996 the exchange rate started to plummet and by 1997 it was 150/1. The reason for the plummet, then President Reagan wanted to decrease the trade deficit. The easiest way to do this was to devalue the dollar. So, was Reagan levying an un-reported tax on everyone, hitting the poor the hardest? The economist on the Right didn’t think so.
Looks like the same policy used by another president.
Lavish spending in DC. Vague, I know. But did you know under Obama, the number of limos operated by the government has increased some 250 percent? The DOJ just got caught buying $16 muffins and $10 cups of coffee for its lavish – and all too frequent – staff meetings, amounting to millions of wasted dollars. The examples could go on.
Every president in modern times has had to deal with $100 hammers and $12 nails. Is it their fault? I bet you won’t find a memo telling the DOJ to buy those particular muffins.
What Congress? Obama’s EPA has moved forward implementing sizable parts of Cap and Trade, even though the Congress never passed it. The admin has also unilaterally declared that non-threatening illegal aliens won’t be pursued, even though no law to that effect was ever passed. Regulatory promulgation is supposed to clarify gaps in laws, not stand in place of substantive legislation. Under Obama, unelected bureaucrats have not just more limos, but far more power to whatever the hell they want.
This one is a little all-over-the-board but I try anyway. I don’t like it but you should look into how many right wingers have undocumented aliens working for them. My approach would be to prosecute the people who employ and harbor them. I’m guessing a policy like that from Obama would be criticized for going after businesses who were just trying to cut labor cost.
Can you name the president who declared war on undocumented/illegal aliens?
Obamacare. The monstrous law – probably the most transformative law in American history – was passed in the most hideous way imaginable. It’s a pig trough for special interest groups and liberal think tanks, and its roll-out has been a buffet for the well-connected to get special waivers, a disproportionate share of which went to unions and unionized companies.
Can you give me some proof of the unions/companies getting waivers? The biggest benefactors of Obamacare will be the insurance companies, millions of new, forced customers and will still be able to raise rates. If I remember correctly, they were the ones fighting it the most. But hey, the right should be happy. No more hospitals going bankrupt due to treating uninsured patients.
Offshore drilling. The very public and much-assailed moratorium on offshore drilling has expired, but by sitting on mountains of applications for permits to explore and extract domestic oil, the administration has again circumvented Congress and shut down domestic drilling. The jobs are leaving the country as companies start to realize the gig.
Are you saying they are caught up in red tape designed to stop another oil spill like the one in the gulf? The domestic oil isn’t going overseas so why are the jobs? The oil and the jobs are going to be there when the oil companies get their safety acts together.
There are more, but my fingers are tired.
Fortunately, it looks like Americans are starting to wake up, realizing the Blame Bush Bandwagon has, after three years of policy making by a corrupt crony capitalist Obama administration, lost its last wheel.
Corrupt crony capitalist like the White House staff the used insider trading to invest in a company that was given 2 no-bid contracts to rebuild Iraq and the Gulf after Katrina. Isn’t it amazing that while the rest of the world was licking its wounds for losses in the market, the GWB staff all became Million and Billionaires?
I know this was really wrapped in sarcasm tags but the truth is none of us are winning but the as long as the right keeps ignoring the truth, they are losing.
And the answer is
c) this doesn’t even closely resemble an answer to the original question.
