......how offensive this is.....Xmas?

How about an X for Budda

Or an X for Mohammad....(well there are too many candy asses to do and X for Mohammad, afraid a guy in a bomb vest will show up outside your door.)

But I guess us Christians just need to get used to being kicked around, heck our savior told us it would happen......but it still is BS....:moon:

i would think most "christians" would find the commercialization of christmas more offensive. isnt that where xmas was derived from? stores and businesses didnt want to offend other religions, but they still want to have the xmas sales. ???

even though im not religious i still agree the whole thing is rediculous.

I can see how cutting it short can seem offensive, look up the meaning in the dictionary and you will find that it is not offensive.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!

:werd: It has gotten out of hand...that is the whole "Christmas" idea. I'm failing to see the correlation between Jesus' birthday and a fat dude, who drives reindeer, and uses the chimney as a means of delivery.

I agree with III. Realizing 3 kings came with presents for the new born king I'm just curious how it has to come to be such a season of 'I want' and 'buy me this' instead of celebrating the birth of our lord?

I agree Xmas is strange.
Not sure how X came to stand for Christ in Christmas ?

i followed fernmans advice and googled xmas. its origins are kinda debated but its interesting none the less, the way i read about it, originally it was on the same field as christmas.

I never use an X in place of Christ. And you guys are right, Christmas is just for the stores to get richer, no true meaning of the holiday anymore.

Growing up, all my friends' families wrote "xmas" on all their boxes that they had stored containing all their decorations and what not.. I always imagined it was just short for Christmas. I personally never heard anyone say "merry xmas" or anything like that. I also never knew it was offensive, especially since they were the ones using it.

The title “Christ,” or more accurately “Christos,” is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew word “Messiah.” And in Greek, the first letter in the word “Christos” is “X”? (pronounced “chi” with a “k” sound). It was in Europe during the 1500s that Christians began to use “X” to refer to “Christ” in the word “Christmas.” Likewise, you may have even seen an ancient Christian symbol of what looks like a capital ”P” overlayed by an “X.” It’s called the Chi Rho, which are the first two Greek letters in the title, “Christos.”

So, rather than being upset when you see “Xmas,” let it all the more remind you of the person who is represented by that “X”—Jesus the Christ. I myself am also reminded of the similar emblem of the cross.

Merry Xmas from a fellow Christian :D don't be offended...

All true (just heard this discussed on the radio) but most of the ones using X-mas nowadays are not implying their belief in Christ or their understanding of Greek.
Even still, as Christians we're not supposed to be easily offended, by people using the big X or attacking our beliefs in any fashion. After all, in the end every knee shall bow, (in reverence and adoration) and every tongue confess, that Christ is Lord. :rulez:
Merry Christmas.

I think it is more readily used these days because of laziness.
Perhaps also adopted by store owners because it takes up less window space.
Also, some folks these days would get their azzes handed to them in a grade 3 spelling bee,so X is easier to write than that other thing:laugh:

I use X i don't like typing. When I am speaking to someone I don't use the short version, any of my friends who are offended I hope they speak up about it. Its even easier to not type or send anything at all
