Brake, Clutch Fluid Replacement

I wanted to replace my clutch and brake fluids. The manual says only use Glycol Based Brake Fluid, DOT 4. Do not mix or use Silicon or Petroleum based fluids.

So here is the question. If I plan on replacing the fluid, what does it matter if I use a silicon based or even synthetic DOT 4 fluid? Are these fluids bad for the hoses, seals?

I am planning to replace the fluids by bleeding out the old fluid and replacing with the new fluid, until the new fluid starts to bleed out.

Any thoughts?

Kinda quit out there when you get technical huh???

flush and use Valvoline Synpower DOT4 and you will be very happy
JC is correct, as usual.

The fluids are not compatible with each other. Feel free to change to a syn. but only after a flush out of the old fluid.

If not, stay with the standard DOT4.

Now would be a good time for new braided brake lines

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!

BRAKE FLUID MAKES A GREAT PAINT STRIPPER!

Use extreme care around your painted parts.
