YOUR BEST MACHINES

Lotta toys---getting old, but favorite:
1989 Stratos 201 pro bass boat--stripped, lightned, blueprinted hull with heavily modified Johnson V-8 outbord. The things that were done to that boat would take a book but was radared at 110.3mph. Loved to race them jet boats and wax them with a little "fishing" boat.

Dirty Pete, in response to your question about car and drivers 0-60, in the 2+2, they fudged the clocks back then, and to this day you would not get them to admit it. It was always good for a laugh at the Pontiac nationals car show. 327 in a Pontiac is a rare bird, being a Canadian made Pontiac.

Looks like most Busa owners are HEAVILY into toys! I'll list my few:

Penton Mint 400 circa 1975-street legal two stroke pre-mix rocket. Best wheelie machine I ever had and a great handling bike. 15 miles per gallon. Long since sold.

Cannondale 2.8 series road bicycle. Light and stable. Much better bike than I am a rider. Did two Ramrods with it.

Proflex mountain bike. Primitive suspension system in a bulletproof package. Been commuting on it for over two years now and the bearings are still like new. Have had to true the wheels now and then do to regular trips down stairs.

Ummm-ME! Been running regularly since 1979(I'm 43 now) and last summer did 1500 meters in 4:28(around a 4:48 mile). Not world or even national class but enough to win a few tidbits on the regional level sometimes. I'm no Busa but maybe a Ducati Monster!

Never have cared much about fast cars. The only cool ones are too expensive so I cruise the streets in my minivan and when I'm feeling sporty I drive my wife's Camry(with the V6!!-wow...)

Velociraptor, if you are a runner in Seattle I recommend you join Club Northwest (or at least go to the All-Comer's meets, they are every Wed. evening May thru early Aug. at Edmonds Stadium). If you do, tell Saul Kinderis (CNW President) and Bill Roe Herm said Hi.

BTW that's a solid time for 1500m. I hope I can get my work schedule sane enough to get back to being fast one more time by the time I am 43. I'm 38 now...okay, Hayabusa speed is pure adrenaline, but a running PR is right up there too.

Mr. Bear,

I am a member of Club Northwest and I have been semi-regular at the Wednesday meets in the summer. Most of the CNW Masters runners can run circles around me at anything over 2 miles so after years of running 10Ks, 1/2 marathons, and marathons, I finally figured out that the shorter stuff was better. Got to meet Arthur Lydiard at a dinner last month. He's 83 now with a 30-40 something wife. Doing OK! But enough of this non motorcycle stuff. It's been raining for almost three days now. Was out on the Busa yesterday on wet oily streets with dead leaves everywhere-really dangerous. The Busa is no fun in those conditions 'cause who wants to tiptoe around on a brute. Better to park it and ride the dirt bike around.

Velociraptor,

Go Big Ugly! I was up in Seattle on Sept. 25, and visited some old friends at the WestFest 5k fun run at Alki...talked to Shelley Williams and Martin Rudow. Martin is my old coach and mentor.

I suppose I miss it in Seattle, but not tooling around in the cold rainy muck on my bikes. I was too hard-core (stupid) to ever park them. I definitely miss the guys at Aurora Suzuki. Mike Sweeney slid me the deal of the decade when I bought my GS1100 from him, and a couple of their parts guys (friends of my brother) used to sell me stuff at wholesale all the time. No such luck at dealerships here.

I grew up in Montlake, Saul & I ran together in college at W. Washington U. in Bellingham. Saul was a tough animal, like a 14:20 5K guy. Down here in So. Cal, at least I don't freeze riding home from workouts. That used to suck!

Mr Bear
a c-124 is a very old AF transport 2 and 4 engine versions radial recips, with a radar dome on the front above two large loading doors. it looks like a nose on the face of the airplane. 1950's to 60's era I flew it @ richards gabour AFB 442nd troup carier wing MATS command south of Kansas city. I cross trained in the fighter escorts F-102b and later the very first of the F -16's
the most extreme adrenalin rush of my life !
