Yep, I didn't even consider used because of stuff like that.

Don't discount used just because of a few maniacs. If you buy low mileage used and check out the bike real well you can get some screaming deals. I just bought an 06 ZX-14 with 1680 miles on it in like new condition for $7300. New ones with no changes whatsoever are going between 12-13 grand out the door. Sometimes used can be a VERY good option....let someone else take the huge depreciation hit and you scoop up the deal
