Who can tell me how to build a gear indicator for Bruce?

Ok guys, there is such a wealth of information on this board, I have to ask. Ever since my man Dan gave me the GiPro, Juli has wanted something for her bike(06 Katana). Is there a way to make a gear indicator that will work on a bike that does not have a Gear Position Sensor?
