Well... Trudeau, looks just like a robber... at least he is wearing a mask.

The arrogance and ignorance in many governments around the world is being revealed. Canada is simply one more example of the ....in your face... we are going to incrementally take away your guns and gun rights.

Governments don't want to attempt to disarm large populations of gun owners that don't want to give up their guns. Its to messy, besides, you have to hire some foreign goon squads to make it happen. Its not unlikely that law enforcement and the military will turn on its own government when the confiscation orders get out of hand.

Our last local gun grab here was in 05 after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.. it got some blow back in the media but it didn't last long.

At least we aren't losing all our guns, just the military style ones...and hand guns which is something I thought they'd be targeting first as most gun crimes are done with them.

Other countries have had this happen and survived, I reckon we will too.

I am affected by this as I have several weapons which fall into these categories...when (and if) I have to turn them in, they will never be able to be used again as I will make sure they are permanently disabled.

I just don't like how it was slid in while the pandemic was on taking all the "heat and light" from it....

There will be pretty hefty financial repercussions from all this I figure...from gun shops to ranges to sales..it never was as big an industry as it is in the 'States but we held our own.

Military style gun? I've never seen a fully automatic gun in person ever... a rem 700 has killed alot of people in war yet its not ban cause its bolt action and looks like a hunting rifle? I love the buy back program so I bought guns, now they will buy them back with my tax paying money? So I'm paying twice for the gun? Just to get rid of it? Also the hand guns laws are ridiculous here already... how is banning hand guns going to get them off street? You can't just go in and buy a handgun or transport a handgun, you also have to be part of a shooting range. These laws attack no one but law abiding citizens and make normal citizens criminals... I'm not giving them anything.

This is why I said military "style" weapons....they are based on military platforms and a Remington 700 hasn't killed anywhere near what say an M4 Carbine or AK variant has. There is a huge, vast difference between a bolt action rifle and anything semi automatic for sustained firepower.

I agree with you, taking weapons out of the hands of legal firearm owners makes very little sense to me at all. 99.99% of all gun crimes are done with illegally acquired firearms and mostly hand guns.

As of note, the government mentioned it banned the weapons used in mass shootings or targeted shootings in Canada...the psycho who stormed the parliament buildings and killed the reservist at the War Monument used a lever action Winchester but that particular firearm was not on their list...why?

As you've mentioned, we have been legislated to death when it comes to firearms when it comes to purchase, storage, transportation and use already..

I was able to walk down a street in "$hitholeville" with a fully automatic belt fed machine gun with belts of ammunition and pockets full of grenades but am unable to own a firearm of my choosing...makes little sense.

That's cause you were fighting for "freedom" yet the the people you fought for now say "no you can't own this or that or do this or that." I know firearms are not part of canadian constitution but everyone should be allowed to own a firearm for over reaching goverments, personal protection and recreation. Look at the U.K the violence has increased since guns have been ban.

Well, I look at it a bit differently I guess....we never know how much freedom we have until we go somewhere which has either no freedom or a horrible place to live, I've been to many places which fit that description and even with all it's flaws, it sure is nice to come home again...

As there is nothing which can be done about this firearm ban, I don't get stressed about it. We as Canadians are still permitted to own firearms...if they took them all away, then we would have more to be upset over. Here in Canada, there is a "castle law" however a person has to be 110% certain before enacting it or the homeowner will be in jail faster than the criminal.

Growing up on our farm, we had many firearms but not any which could be described as assault style weapons and we never missed not having them. In reality I guess there is very little need or requirement to have such weapons in the hands of the public. I suppose they could end up in the hands of a criminal in the event of a break in or home invasion.

Sadly all this ban will do is drive the black market.
