Too much plate?

Having run afoul of the local cops recently made me think about radar. I have read here and other places that the Busa is hard to lock on to from the front but much easier from the back. Well I was watching Discovery channel about stealth technology. It makes sense that the shape of the Busa reflects radar away from the radar gun. So what is wrong with the back end?

Looking at it, the back is similar to the front contours except for that reflective license plate. It is big, flat and aimed to reflect radar straight back. Has anyone tried tilting the plate up to minimize reflection backwards and shoot it with a radar gun? It might make it harder to lock onto from the back?

What do ya think? Am I out to lunch?

The front is hard to lock since it is aerodynamic and the rider is behind the screen. This doesn't give a sufficient flat surface to bounce off of. From the back the rider is a big flat target which reflects radar easily. The license plate makes no difference with radar, but it does with laser since the plate reflects light. So possibly tilting the plate up may affect it. Also they do make license plate covers which absorb infrared light which is supposed to make it harder to get a reading with the laser guns.

this is my philosphy on speeding-

if you are going to speed, not 10mph over the speed limit, but I mean REALLY speed, keep your speed above 130mph. Most police cars dont go any faster than 130mph, this includes crown vics, intrepids, and about 10 percent of the police cars out there.

Yes, I know there is a ferrari in your town that catches every bike that speeds and blah blah blah blah blah, I'm not talking about that cop "super car" in your xyz county

If you are going to go hard, stay on the throttle and get on the gas. Dont half ass it and go 15 mph above the speed limit. when I'm on the highways riding hard, I keep it above 120

Radar or not, you go past a cop at 130+mph, you'll be about a mile ahead of him by the time he gets up to speed

tucking in helps on the radar from the rear. got a good buddy thats a sherrif's deputy and took some tips from him. got my back license plate tilted way up (law says it has to be visible from 10 ft straight back) and your just barely reading it at 10 ft. we also found that changing lane position as you are getting clocked (this assumes you have already seen them) makes it harder to get a lock from behind. impossible from the front with a radar gun. we did find that a laser will read from the front but they have to hit the reflector behind your headlight (not very big and they have to be really close) but you would almost have to run over a dps trooper for that to be a factor. after him clocking me about 20 times i can say that even when the gun says its locked it never reads accurately on the busa, always about 20-25 mph slow for some reason

You know I find this topic to be most interesting. While I was in the states I got 3 tickets in 2 months all from the front, this was in 2000. I've never been clocked from the back. But here is alittle something I found on the web recently that might help you when you try to out run the cops.

If they never see the plate...how can they track you??? I e-mailed them about the busas...and they said you will need to let them know your ordering for a busa because there is a different toggle switch bracket.

One ticket on the busa when i first got it i went right by the cop watching the flashing lights on the cops in front of me. The bike was so smooth that i didn't even realize i was speeding till i got stopped..

As far as I'm concerned; if the cop gets a reading on you from behind then your long gone already....

as old as this thread is it's an interesting read. would the aerodynamics of the bike reflect the accuracy to the radar? i pull over regardless but this sparked my interest.
