Would an in/lb torque wrench be fine

my 2 cents: YES!

IF you are not 100% sure that you can torque or tighten it to specs,.......then use a torque wrench. If you are guessing,.......you will eventually have a problem.
Above say it all...nuff said!

I would suggest If you don't have the wrench then buy the crush washer, it's like $0.40 and will give you a very minimal area for error. I haven't used a torque wrench, but only changed it by myself one time. I made sure I had a new crush washer. The last time my buddy did it at his house. I forgot the washer and he did it by feel with no problem. However, he is a certified motorcycle mechanic.
