Throttle snycs

I keep a maintenance log on my bike detailing EVRYTHING that has been done to it. I was at work today putting some updates in it and I realized something has REALLY slipped my attention. Me being Mr.Anal Retentive when it comes to my bike I can't believe it. My bike now has 19,000 miles on it and I have never had the throttles synced before. My question is #1 have I done something bad here?
#2 (the dumb part) What exactly does syncing these do for the bike? I am unfamiliar with this.

Not too sound stupid I just wanna get a better understanding of what this does and to see if I have been hurting anything.

No real damage...unless they are WAY out.

Better performance(hp,milage,smoother running,etc) if its done right.
