This guy isn't part of a conspiracy, he methodically planned making himself infamous and the latest headline...I don't think he thought past all of his actions, or he'd planned on taking his own life and then chickened out. Either way, he's ruined the lives of so many, including his parents and family, and I doubt he'll ever say one redeeming thing. He's going to try to plead insanity to spare himself the death penalty, and if that happens, I hope someone takes care of him on the inside...

We were all talking about this at work and everyone agrees he should have taken his own life and saved us the $$, or he should be put to death, but we know that takes years and costs even more $$. My idea was to start trading illegal immigrants for our most heinous prisoners. Mexico's prison system is quite different from ours, and that might be pretty damn good justice IMHO

officers dont stop the crime...they only react to it....hence how is it their "job" to protect and can say its not his "job" to protect himself!!

Here at the theater they have a sing up that says NO GUNS/Weapons allowed so even with a CCW you cannot carry one in. Looks like to me if you have the CCW you should be able to go anywhere with your gun. Just doesn't make sense to me.

the answer to that one is since its private property...they can make their own rules. if you are found to be CCW there...they can ask you to leave...you haven't committed a crime until you refuse to leave then they can hit you with trespassing. most folks i know choose to openly tell them due to their policy's of not adhering to state law, they are choosing to take their money elsewhere.

That's exactly it. They can tell you to leave and you can refuse to comply right up to the point that officers drag you out in cuffs but you'll be arrested for tresspassing and disorderly conduct, not weapons possession (Provided you followed all the local laws regarding carry, blah blah blah.)

However they're not the only game in town thus I take my business elsewhere without saying a word. It's not going to change their mind, usually that comes from a corporate office 1,000 miles away and it wastes my energy.

As for dude number 2, I don't know about that. I can see his reasoning but carrying all that stuff in a bag throws me. In a reactionary situation there's zero advantage to having your weapons in a bag. Part of why carrying a compact firearm in a coat went away, it's just not practical from a defense aspect. From the second article it sounds like the officer recognized the bag as being a concealment item, so I can understand him asking for consent to search. Plus with the guy on unspecified meds that could have done a lot of good. However his final statement about weapons is why we have the second amendment in the first place. He protects the community, the community protects themselves from guys like him.

Here's the grey area, do you let him have his guns and leave, or do you temporarily retain/confiscate until a hearing regarding his mental health status be heard?

The guy didn't just bring a gun, he brought a BUNCH of gun and knives - turns IMHO from defensive purposes to OFFENSIVE. But that's where the gray area starts. And we have to trust the officer's judgement about balancing the public's safety with this idiot's 'rights'. I think officer had right to temporarily detain, but after checking this guy out, have to release if he was legal carry.

In Cookeville TN 2 weeks ago, almost same thing happened. Someone saw someone printing. Called police. Police stopped movie, said it's against theatre policy, and asked everyone carrying to step outside - 3 people did. All three had CCW permits and clean records, and were allowed to put their weapons in their vehicles with a reminder that it's theatre policy (posted) and return to the movie.

im not being an a$$ to be this literal and im also only responding to the quote u posted i didnt follow the link, but the officer is right its their "job" to do it not his. and the officer did not say its not the guys job to protect himself he said its not his job to protect the community. and its not. ccw is for personal protection. he has the "right" to protect himself and his community but no he is not obligated and its not his "job". Im not gonna even get on my training soap box but again protecting the community under stressful circumstances is not easy and everyone is not skilled enough or even has the right mindset (including some whose job it is to do so) to do it.

even in your defense of your own ccw habits u never said you wanted to save the world just protect yourself and not be victimized. and quite frankly the more i thought about that and all the other precautions you take to avoid this happening to you, you dont even have to carry.
