Anyone see this yet...? :pityfool:

They run a long term test bike which is a modded '08 BUSA all out to see if it will go 200mph. The rider was a 240lb. journalist that couldn't get behind the windscreen....

Mods: KR exhaust, Dynojet PC/Quickshift combo, K&N filter, Galespeed Wheels, Beringer brake kit, and 60-shot of nitrous.

Anyone want to guess what it ran stock and with nitrous...? :O

60 shot? certainly over 200 but with "blotto" behind the handlebars.. probably cost them 4 or 5 mph easily.. so maybe 201-203?

it didn't break the 2ton even with the nitrous squirt :poke: Read the part about aero dynamics and it'll shed some light why.

truly breaking the 200 mark humbles alot of people. :beerchug:

Yep, I bought the mag. No surprises since many here have stated what a huge gap there is between 186 and 200.

I cant remember where I heard it but..........."There have been more NASA Astronauts than there have been motorcyclists verified at over 200mph".

of course NASA has had hundreds of Astronauts since the 60's not all have gone up in spacecraft. 200 mph is an exclusive club!

I want to get in that exclusive club, thats one of the reasons why I bought the '08. I was hoping his big azz would get to 200 then I knew since I weigh less, I may have a chance as well. Attached my GPS to the tank, and under full tuck, I saw 187, with the TRE switch set to on. No great mods, just fully Muzzy and TRE. Maybe its time to switch out the stock air filter.

Well i attached a GPS on my 2008 Busa with NO MODS all stock except a Switchable TRE set to on and i ran 314.3KM (195.3MPH) @11700rpms
i weigh 78KGs :whistle::whistle:

and yes i have a screenshot of the run for the non-believers
to hit 200MPH what mods should i do? im trying to keep it as close to stock as possible
any hints?

does anyone know of a air funnel mod? (not sure its translated correct in english)

The rider's weight shouldn't have much if any effect on top speed. A lot of the salt runners are heavy and weight deals more with quickness than overall top speed.

That is for sure, Salt flats LSR bikes are weighted even to help combat tire spin.. heavy is good..

FAT is not.. stick outside the fairings and pppPPPpPpPp Drag goes up exponentially at speed..

I wrote some of the stuff for that story but have not seen it yet in person. They talked to me about going 200 on a busa as well as the aerodynamic testing that I did with Lee Shierts and Dave O a few years ago on the 06 Hayabusa and the ZX-14.

While rider weight doesnt have a direct effect the fact that the editor is very tall and muscular does have a big impact on aerodynamics and that of course affects top speed and my guess on why it didnt go 200.

200 isnt easy though thats for sure.

did you happen to get any wind tunnel time or was this practical testing? what type of stuff were you trying ?

Yes we spent a whole day in the tunnel and it was all written up (well most everything was) in sport rider magazine about 2 years ago and if you search on here there are some threads on the results too.

We tested a ZX-10, zx-14 busa and a GSXR1000 and maybe we did Dave Os bike too.

rotts4u,

I'd love to chat with you sometime about your time in the wind tunnel. Are you going to be attending the Texas Mile in March...?

Not really that odd. There have been many with over 225 or so to not go 200. I think the last editor of SSB showed up at Maxton with a Nitrous ZX-14 making over 220 ish or so and got close but didnt crack the double ton either.

In this and many other cases it is a symptom of a poor setup overall. There are many other factors other than peak hp that must be properly done to go over 200. Dave Sonsky the editor that wrote this story is really a huge guy and there are not many muscle bound guys that I can think of that have been over 200 (really 200 not speedo).

Dave is a great rider and used to ride a lot of stunt type stuff years ago so I know its not the lack of bravery or anything like that.

I am sure with a proper set up and a smaller rider he could go 200mph too.
I went 200 on a naturally aspirated Busa but it had some engine work but wasnt making anything like 250hp.

Sorry I will not be at the March Texas Mile. Texas is just so far away from me I doubt I will ever make it unless somebody flew me in for something and I dont think that will happen. I do all my racing at Maxton just because of the distance.

This article actually saved me a lil ridicule today. I had a buddy of mines wife tell me that my bike will do 210 easy. It sucked that I had to tell her that it will not reach that. I would probably have a chance on the bike in the article just because I can tuck down further than he could but I'm still not sure. I just thought it was funny because she was in awe that I told her that it couldnt do it unless it has some decent mods done to it. Mine is stock for now for just a couple of more days!!! Pics will come soon after.

Yes, it's funny how people always come up to me saying my bike will do 200mph.
