read in another post that starting the busa in first gear isn't a good idea and u should always start it in neutral. Will it do any harm starting in first gear? Almost everytime i'm out runnin around on the bike i kill it in first, then hop back on, clutch it in first and start it. Not sure why it would be bad on the bike, but thought i read in another post u should always start in neutral

I'm the oppposite. Every bike I have owned I would kill it in neutral, and start it in neutral. However I don't see why starting the bike in first would harm anything?

ok thanks, might start leaving it in neutral when i stop to avoid any "down the road issues". Just always park it in first and roll the bike forward just in case it gets bumped or something and rolls off the kickstand. Happended the second day i got the bike, started it in neutral to let it warm up a bit on a slight incline, and it rolled right off the kickstand, luckily i caught it on the way down to the pavement and no damage was done besides a tiny chip in the fairing. Just never want that to happen again.

Do the kickstand mod. It is very hard to make the bike to over-center the stand with the mod.

I always start mine when the engine is cold in neutral, and when warm, in first.
When it is cold I let it run a while in neutral until the oil is warm.
I don't like the clunk when you go from neutral to first, so if it is already warm, I start it in first.

You should still kill the bike in neutral and then put it in first gear for safety's sake. No reason to leave the bike in neutral unless your starting it or killing it. At least that's what I do. :beerchug:

I almost always start in neutral.. although there's no problem starting in gear. When the oil is cold though it will cause a bit of drag on the starter motor.

I start in neutral cause I let it idle to warm up before I ride so it has to be in neutral to start with the kickstand down.

I always stop and park in 1st and start the motor in 1st. Never had a problem with any cycle I have had.

I've always started my bike in first. Because I put it in first when I park it. Never have had any problems.

I beleive you used to have to put it in (N) to start it before they had the clutch saftey switch. Otherwise when starting it in gear the bike would move foward.

What's the kickstand mod? :poke:

+1! I'm horrible at producing search results on the .org, so if you can provide a link that'd be schweeeet! I, too, get a little nervous leaving the old girl in neutral unattended... let's just say "someone" was washing her once and they must've had her in neutral... hard to catch a wet, slippery bike...:banghead:

Ive always started in first no issues....also about parkin.....Park it in first, when you get on the bike put it in neutral.....then start...way its supposed to be and even though I might get flak on this one...UNLESS youve parked in a REALLLYYYYYYY bad incline or a VERYYYYYY uneven surface...as long as you park in first, and lock the bars to the left you shoudnt have to worry about the kickstand mod or it falling over.....have a couple of busa friends along with myself, never done the mod, never dropped the bike

I agree with the parking stuff and not needing the kickstand mod. :beerchug:
