I showed up on Thursday to perform my usual duties for "SullivanRaceSchool.com". Arrived at 6:30 AM with with the usual tray of Starbucks coffee treats for Sully and crew. I'm everybody's buddy for about a half hour until the Starbucks coffee treats are consumed. After that I'm just one of the bums setting up cones!
Things went as usual with track set up, ride around for the new comers etc. The riders meeting was at 8:30 like always and right after Sully turns toward his trailer a few yards away, looks directly at me and curls his finger while sporting his best poker face and says "Come Here"! I thought damn, what did I do now, I haven't had a student crash all season? Sully opens the side door and picks up a box containing a brand new Arai Quantum II helmet (XL just my size). Underneath the helmet was a set of my favorite brake pads "EBC Extreme Pro". Sully says I just want to thank you for all you have done for me!
Wow! Sometimes it does pay off to be a good guy! However, I think Sully was confused between a happy face and a good guy!
Mike is at ORP (Oregon Raceway Park) today and tomorrow making some serious bank to school one on one with a group of five. I only wish I was that talented. I'd like nothing more than to make that kind of money for doing something I thoroughly enjoy! But then I don't have 40 years of competitive racing under my belt nor the 14 different bones Mike has broken in crashes!
Hats off to Mike and THANK YOU very much for the helmet and brake pads as well as the time you have spent turtoring me improving my skills. It's all greatly appreciated!
