Slider installation

Ok i've heard some guys use different lenghts on different sides, why and is it necessary? How do you know where to drill? Someone mentioned something about a laser, what are they talkin about? Any different "types" or compositions preferred or to stay away from? Any and all info is appreciated.

Saw a post not long ago. Valuim was in it. Looked like the placed a Laser light so the beam lit through the bolt hole. Then they placed the panel back on the bike to see where the laser hit. Mark the panel, pull it and drill. Use masking tape where you drill.

The sliders are made so that the right side sticks out farther than the left. Either the sliders are different lengths or the screws are different lengths. They are mounted in the lower motor mount. All kinds of info to be found if you search for it.
