Arness served in WWII in the European theater. He was awarded a purple heart after getting injured. So he was a hero, well before any acting career. A quality American.

can't say that about todays crop of so-called actors

all the people i grew up watching and loving are now dying. it sucks. just means im getting old too. it was a good show. one of the few westerns i enjoyed
