Quick question about licences

hi so let me get this straight... i can go anytime do my m1 written test, then i go to a school and pay like 320 bucks and get my m2 certificate if i pass, and after 60 days i get my m2. What if i decide not to take the school... do i wait 90 days and go do test at ministery? do u guys suggest this, how much does it cost. After i get my m2 can i just drive freely?

might help if wec new what area we are talikn about, i know its not new york so i cant help here if you have a reg lic you go to dmv take motorcycle permit test for three dollars , then you sighn up for a road test which cost you an aditional 5 dollars to get your motorcycle endorsment ,or i think you can go to the msf course , dmv approved instructors , and they will take you through everything soup to nutz ! from permit to license endorsment and yeah its between 3 and 400 dollars you ride thier bikes 2 gear honda 250s !

Depends on the state...

Here in MI, you can take the written test and get what is similar to a learners permit for bikes (meaing you can only ride with another licensed rider, but you can go back an renew it after 60 days forever I think).

Then once you pass the riding test you get a full CYcle endorsement. The thing is you can either a) go to the secretary of state(DMV) and just take the riding test on your bike or b) go take the motorcycle saftey course, which will let you ride little 250cc bikes and practice riding. At the end of that course they will test you(using the SAME riding test you could have taken in option "a") on the 250cc bikes which is easier.

The MSF course is easier to pass (only about 1/4 ppl failed my class and something like 60-70% fail the sec of state test the first time) and gives you some good information as well.

The price varies greatly from state to state because some states will pay for a portion of the cost (here in MI I think its like 35 bucks for the state sponsored ones, or you can take the Harley course for ~300). The problem with the $35 course is that it is always full and very hard to get in.

My first streetbike I bought wrecked from a salvage shop, as I was rebuilding it I took the $35 course so by the time the bike was running I was already endorsed.
