Ran up to Poulsbo, WA for the weekend in the Ultimate Wrenching Machine. Cute town.

Spoke with this nice biker lady on the ferry to Seattle. She had done the ferry trip up to Port Rupert and said that it was "sporty" compared to this 30 minute ride on still waters, but that they provided everything necessary to secure the scooter.

Funny thing about prepping for a big ride, even with weeks of planning and a solid long term maintenance plan, one still gets nervous. “Did I check that..? Should I bring those??”

My last adventure with the org. Let’s go out in style.

I’ve never needed any tools on tour but I’ve always carried enough tools to remove the seat in case I need to access the battery, tools to lift the tank and of course tools to adjust the chain. Before the ride I walk around the bike with tools in hand and check the snugness of every nut and bolt I can see. Once you do that you’ll be ready to go. Since you’re headed to Alaska I take it you won’t make it to Lolo MT.

Likely not this year. Looks fantastic.

Day 1.

Rever link

I was super excited to see if I could find half the sites I've been reading about in the various Oregon history books these past weeks. Rolled out at 8:30 and hit the slab east to The Dalles, then south through Dufer.

The first goal was to see the Simnasho church on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation I had read about. The road across the reservation turned about to be the stuff of dreams. All these years of passing it by.

Turning south from 20 puts you on this ridge with an amazing view of the Malheur Lake and the snow covered Steen Mountains way in the distance.

400 miles brought me to Diamond, OR. And a delightful B&B where I got to ask questions to decendants of the founders of the area. Super helpful when looking for ghost towns and ruins.

Remains of the old community hall. "In the early decades of the twentieth century it became a common occurance for the residents in the surrounding area to gather on a weekly basis for lively fiddle music, John Barleycorn, and occasional fisticuffs." The top floor burned in the '20's.

A quick bite at Starbucks and we were off again.

I highly recommend twisty bit leading to Bowman Dam. After that it's a lot of smooth straight tarmac with nothing to do but pin it...

Starbucks? Too good to park in the parking lot where everybody else parks?
