I can, although I haven't done it on my Busa yet.

It was lowered and I had a really hard time getting it to the ground (and honestly ran out of season up here in NH) but I raised her back up to proper riding height and its my goal to lay this beast over this spring.

I can lay down an R1, but just curious, who here drags knee on a Busa?

Quickly become our favorite reoccurring thread.

It's really not that hard. It just takes a lot of practice, see-through, proper lane position and a lot of concentration. About 10,000 miles of riding over 8 months and became 2nd nature. Great fun. Has nothing to do with speed (the misnomer), moreso just technique.

i do at the track, not on the street. I have to hit a turn a few times to feel it out before im comfortable enough with it. I don't think it is a good indicator wether or not someone is taking the corners fast or not.

If I'm anywhere near dragging a knee it is because I'm in the middle of lowsiding! Thank heavens that hasn't happened ........ My butt stays firmly on the middle of the seat, and I lean the bike hoping that she will make the turn!:please:

i'm lowered now, i dunno if i could get low enough to drag. i've been tilted over enough to nearly drag hard parts, but never gotten a knee down. maybe because i don't have any riding pants with pucks, lol.

Don't have the balls to do so, I would be too afraid of laying the bike down. how do you guys do it? accelarate into the turn? Keep the rpms high?

Done on the track a couple of times, but never on the street.

On a side note, I think the objective of dragging a knee is somewhat questionable. Not that there is anything wrong with that. A rider can frequently drag a knee and have no chicken strips, but his/her body position could be wrong and actually causing excessive lean angles - hence dragging a knee and having no chicken strips. While another rider for example moves the upper body well to the inside of the turn - thus having less lean angle, going throuth the same turn faster and safer, but not dragging a knee and having some chicken strips.

There is actually a simple check for the correct body position (that's my personal opinion, not sure about others). A rider's face should be facing the mirror (or where the mirror would be). If not, the body position is wrong (again, in my opinion). An additional checkpoint would be that the outside arm (elbow area) rests on the tank comfortably.

I can, but at 5'10" I have to slide over in the seat to drag, it's not as easy as a 1000. I also have the stock cans back on my 08 temporarily, they drag the road and i really have to lean out to get a knee down.
The right lower fairing also has an egg shaped scrape growing on it, that side sits out further than the left and tends to hit the road, knee down or not. Some folks will gripe and say it's bad form, maybe, but that's only after I pass them in the curves:laugh:

All curves are obviously different, but for the most part you are maintaining speed, or decelerating into the curve, and accelerating out of it. You can lean further down than you think without dragging a knee, and usually without increasing your speed. As speed increases, eventually you will almost have to drag or at least be at that lean angle to make the turn.
Just try gradually leaning into a known curve a little more. It takes a little geting used to. Even if you never get your knee down, with practice, you'll be suprised how much you can improve.

One of the first things the instructors told us at race school was not to worry about dragging your knee. One of the instructors, a highly successful superbike racer, told us how he would get all the pucks his sponsor provided at the beginning of the season and sell them off to other riders as he never dragged his knees so he got through the season on one set of pucks.....and won races.

Never got a knee down but with the back lowered 1 1/2 inches I have scraped my pegs several times. I raised it back up last week and have not been to any turns yet, feels like it will be harder to do now. I don't have any riding pants with knee pucks so I will keep my knees safely tucked for now but I would love to try it

That the same thing the rider coaches said at the sport bike riders class
