Are you tired of those sissy-ass "friendship" poems that
always sound good, but never actually come close to reality?? Well,
here is a series of promises that actually speak of true friendship:

1. When you are sad -- I will help you get drunk and
plot revenge against the sorry ####### who made you sad.

2. When you are blue -- I will try to dislodge whatever
is choking you.

3. When you smile -- I will know you finally got laid.

4. When you are scared -- I will rag on you about it
every chance I get.

5. When you are worried -- I will tell you horrible
stories about how much worse it could be until you quit whining.

6. When you are confused -- I will use little words to explain it to your dumb ass

7. When you are sick -- Stay the hell away from me until
you are well again. I don't want whatever you have.

8. When you fall -- I will point and laugh at your
clumsy ass.

9. This is my oath..... I pledge it to the end. "Why?"
you may ask; "because you are my friend".

Send this to 10 of your closest friends, then get
depressed because you can only think of 4.

Remember.......A good friend will help you move.....a
REALLY good friend will help you move a body.......let me know if
you ever need me to bring a shovel.

The following is true. I have never forgotten this but your post brought some memories back.

Before my grandpa died. He held his hand up and asked me to look at it. He then asked me "how many friends do you have". I wasn't sure what he was talking about, so I thought about it for a second and told him " I have a bunch of friends". He held up his hand again and spread his fingers and said "If your friends add up to as many fingers on my hand your the luckiest man in the world". After some thought I knew what he was talking about. I left that day thinking about what my grandpa had told me. The more I thought about it the less friends I had. After alot of thinking I came up with two true friends(not even half of his hand). I was down to one friend for awhile ,because of suicide, a couple years ago. I'm back up to two again. It's taken me all of my 29 years to have two friends. But let me tell you they are great friends. The kind of friends you would take a bullet for.

Don't get me wrong, there are alot of people I like. I'll buy you a beer, give you a ride to work, babysit your kids,etc..But I takes a special person to be one of those five.
I don't know if my grandpa had a handfull of friends or not ( I never asked him). I don't think I will ever have a handful friends but a couple of REAL friends are enough for me.

Thanks again for the post. Most that you listed are good qualities of a true friend.
