Motorcycles in Greece

Spending a few days in Athens, makes me realize how little I know about the bike market outside of the US.

Tons of two wheelers all the time and everywhere I look. I have seen a couple of Harleys, one V-Strom, and anything else not recognizable. If there is a Suzuki, Kawasaki, Honda or Yamaha, it is totally different to anything I have seen before. Even the BMW bikes looks totally different. Lots of brand names, I have never heard of. Most are not for leisure, they are an important means of transport, or delivery of goods. Most have small motors. Lane splitting everywhere.

It's been a long time since I was there...

I did some time in Cyprus and there are a whole pile of scooters running around there......there seemed to be rentals on every other corner.....very few big bikes though..

I almost snagged a beautiful red Moto Guzzi Le mans but there were too big of hurtles to ship it to Canada-I would have had to change carbs and exhaust to import it in......too bad.....

It actually had nothing to do with bikes. Just the vacation to someplace new. Now that you mention it though.

I've read the Greek government closed a few attractions for 2025 so they can undergo renovations/repair....the number of visitors are taking their toll.

Heard the same. Nothing is guaranteed, so just have to do what you can when you can.

One of my nephews inherited an olive grove farm in Greece somewhere.....from what I've heard from my mother, it is a pretty good operation...

I recall the olives in Cyprus being huge....

I live 11-12 miles from work in the closest town and I like my job, other than riding my bikes...I'de be happy if I never had to go any further ever again, I've been enough places...

There's a ton of bikes sold overseas that you can't buy in the US and there's a lot of brand name bikes that are sold overseas but not sold in the US.

So we figured out a number of these bikes in Greece, are made in China.

From Greece to Istanbul. Cars are bigger, crazy traffick, less motorcycles, but the way they lane split is high speed, high risk.

Spent 2 hours in a Taxi, with a Kurdish driver, who told me the Kurds are the largest nation in the world without a country. And, everyone who speaks up for them in politics goes to prison. They like Americans and like to fight alongside Americans.

From Istanbul to South Africa, rented a car and another brand I have never heard of before. Google to the rescue, it is 100% made in China. Not bad, but not totally up to American expectations. Picture below. China sure is moving fast though.
