How often do you replace your air filter, at what mileage?

From experience I know high performance motors love to breathe and the slightest clogging even after cleaning, makes a difference, so replacing mine at 6,000 miles.

To soon?

I've been changing mine at the beginning of the riding season, so after 7-8000 miles. I always look at it and think I should have changed it sooner.

You shouldn't have to change yours that often now what with that automatic oiler feature on the new 14R :poke:

I check and clean mine every 1-1500 miles. Replace every 10k no matter what and sooner if needed.

I clean mine every 1500 miles, by tapping out all the bugs (ya can beat on OEM pretty hard) once all the big stuff comes out I would use compressed air blowing it the proper way against the intake of the filter and install it back in. Once done hold it up and look thru the filter at the sun it should look even with the sun coming through it.
At around 12K miles I noticed mine getting dark in color just normal sut and oil from the road and decided to go with the BMC. Since then I think I may have lost a little performance since I am not tuned for it I dunno, still runs good but now I can just wash and oil mist it.

Welcome. Cannot go wrong with either but the stocker supposedly flows better than either one...just cannot wash/reuse it.

On accident I replaced the original last year at 22K miles. It looked pretty good when I changed it. I guess it has a lot to do with where you live and if you hit dirt roads etc.

The BMC flows better than stock and gives a hp or so gain, Ryan Schnitz did a dyno comparison of a BMC race, Pipercross race, and stock filter. The BMC gave the most gain, 1 1/2 hp or so I believe, the Pipercross a little less. But you do give up some filtering for that extra power. I run a BMC street on my busa, it doesn't flow quite as well as the race, but filters a little better. I seemed to notice a quicker throttle response when I put it in. I put the race BMC in my 14 before I boosted it, but I did several other mods at the same time so it was hard to tell what the BMC did performance wise. I like the fact they're super easy to clean and re-usable, saves the 36 mile round trip drive to the dealers for the spendy stock filters
But keep in mind they don't filter as well as stock, so you may shorten you're engine life slightly...your engine may only last 150k instead of 160k

First off, beautiful dog as an avatar. I inspect mine every 1000 thousand miles unless, I ride in an area I felt was extremely dusty, then I may pop it out and inspect it carefully. I have a K & N, so its nothing to clean it off, re-oil it and let it dry.
