I just got back from looking at on 01 hayabusa. It only had 685 miles on it. The thing looked brand new. When he started it, it idled rough for a bit. I know it probably hasnt been ridden in a while and who knows how old the gas is but is that normal? a rough idle at startup? It did smooth out after a few minutes.

also you think anything could have happened to it with the same oil sitting in it since 01? he did say it has never been changed. There is nothing i can really think of. If i got it i would change the oil right away and maybe tank the tank off and dump the gas.

He was asking 8k. A bit high if you ask me. I offered him 7k and he said 7500. so i said i would have to think about it and proceeded to my truck. then he came up to me and asked for my number so i am thinking i may get a call in a few days. i hope so.

A normally ridden Busa will idle just fine. You would need to change all the fluids in it at the very least. I would still recommend taking it to a qualified mechanic and have it checked out. Under 7k would be a great deal for the bike, but make sure you get it checked!

If it's a little chilly outside and I don't use the idle up lever on my 05 busa it idles what I would call rough for a few mins then it smooths as far as the other questions I can't help ya there.
Good Luck!

685 is barely broken in. Yes, these things can idle a bit ruff till fully warm.

The oil, dont ride it till the oil has been changed. Look thru the sight glass to check for moisture/condensation, the oil will look milky. Change out the filter too. I could bore you with a whole bunch of technical bullshid about the trans gears getting a little life expectancy taken off them by the acids in old oil etc etc etc.

Some fuel injector cleaner will be a welcome touch. Gas starts to break down in 30 days. If the fuel is that old, dump it, an' start fresh. A clean of the injector screens, the fuel filter, fuel pump, the rail...would definately be benificial.

The ultimate tests for used bikes are:
road test
compression test
full look see by quaified tech
dyno
shid like that....

find out why someone quit on it, after only 685.

hav a good 1...RSD.

If it ideled rough... and he has not changed the oil!! Well then be prepared to clean those injectors... when you are changing the oil and the oil filter. If the bike has not been run for a long time... then I also suggest you you take a look inside the gas tank... just to eliminate the possibality of rusting!!

i did see a bottle of stablize next to the bike. so i think he has put that in the gas at least to save the fuel.

685 miles on an 01' , that is 171 miles per year. Just be sure that they can prove the claim.

Yeah, that sounded a bit strange to me. If it IS legit, $7500 for a technically new 'Busa is pretty darn good. I know you tod him $7000 but if you can get it for $7500 OTD, go for it (again ... assuming its legit.)

as NE suggested... look for signs that it didn't do 30,000, then get dumped, then have a new/or adjusted odometer put on.
