If it's gen1, 99-07
Use a paint stick, or long screw driver.
Between passenger seat or hump and tail fairing, brake pedal/right side.
Push stick through gap.
Latch arm is on back side of bike, push it towards shifter side.
May take a few trys to get the latch arm, but it will push and open easily.

Unbolt driver seat.
Remove 4 pushpins and small rectangular plastic piece, it's front center below passsnger seat.
Look in, latch arm faces front of bike.
Use long screwdriver, push latch arm toward shifter side of bike.
