So, your avatar is the current Congress?

r8

Be careful, his avatar is a "white" dude screwing something !! That means at least is not the President-elect, maybe the current president. But even if it is G-dub, he should be done caused we (the country) have been screwed for a while now.

I'm not a huge fan of my job, nor was I ever... But in these tough times, I don't complain about it anymore since a lot of the people around me in different professions are losing their jobs, getting laid off, etc. I feel for them. The police business, however, is booming. When broke people become broker, they steal more, rob more, pillage more, and generally cause even more trouble than they were causing before. This may be one of the few professions where job security is extremely good. Im earning a good steady paycheck, and so is my wife. We were fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of automakers offering 0% for up to 72 months! So we bought the little lady a new Ford Edge fully loaded. We are blessed to be where we are at this point in our lives. It also helps tremendously that we didnt buy things we couldn't afford, and we live within our means. Even though lots of people were buying houses way more than they could afford, we stayed happy with what we had and could comfortably afford so we didn't end up needing a "bail-out". It bothers me that the people who were conscious of their spending for the last few years will now have to bail out the people who weren't. Sorry for the rant.

What part of "Congress" do you not understand?

You libs can stop with the Bush bashing. Eight years is enough.

I would have loved a bigger garage, basement, or some other goodies. But together we decided thats its just us and our animals and how much do we really need?! I am glad we came to that decision as a team (the wife and I) Probably saved us from worries and head aches down the line. And anyone who thinks Obama is the cure all end all for any financial troubles they may be in.... They better brace themselves and hope they have planned for the worst. I agree 100% that CHANGE is on the way. I just don't think it will be the change Obama fans were hoping for. Good luck.

Working for the nations 2nd largest electric utility, I am relatively safe for the moment. This can change, but we already announced there will be no salary increases next year. I am happy to have my job so a merit increase is not a big loss compared to employment.

My company announced yesterday that they have reviewed the finances and will be making some cuts. Nothing major like post Sept 11. But there will be cuts. My pay raise is going to happen on time  and I still get my bonus for the year :cheerleader:

However. There is going to be layoffs, contract workers won't get extended, some people will not get their pay raises till April or later and the hirings have been put on ice.

Definitely not as bad as most. And our business is actually holding steady. They are just preparing for the worst. The layoffs will cover 1.5% of the company. So it's tiny (in comparison to Sept 11ths 16.7%). The number I heard was 300 out of 20,000+.

I am not on the list. As far as I know.

We are doing good in the Power Industry. We are fixing to hire some more Linemen in a few weeks. Knock on wood.

It's almost there now.

I don't see it. Some stupid businesses go out [a shop that sells nothing but nascar trinketts??], and other businesses are in. I see new strip malls going up with new stores, and even some housing still going up. People driving everywhere, Best Buy full of shoppers, restraunt parking lots full as always, and movie theaters at least 1/3 full as always. aparently SOME ONE is not stopping. :)

Business is up, much of our automation is used in the bread making industry. We have a 75+ year history that shows people consume more bread when things are tough.

Bread in the supermarket and buns at Mcdonald's (both made with our equipment) are in high production mode now.

I'm with ya there. We're in the conveyor belt business. People aren't buying $30,000 Hondas but they sure are eating alot more frozen pizzas, soups, crackers and bread. If a product is made and needs to be moved, we're there.

People seem to be delaying taking care of health issues because of the economy (layoffs and plant closures) and rapid increases in deductibles and co-pays required by health insurance plans.

Here is an excerpt from a New York Times article last Friday...

They are waiting to get it for FREE when Obama passes his universal health care fiasco.

I work in managed care and we are still posting BILLION dollar profits at end of year statement time.

With that said, people are getting VERY WORRIED about Obama's socialized medicine plans.
