bosses kid got a ticket yesterday.. they wrote him up for 5 over in a 70 and then took his license because he did not have cash to pay on the spot... is that for real?

$150 now and you keep your license, otherwise, after we get it, we mail you your license back.. WTF is that about?

Las Vegas, Nevada. Yes, State Police were everywhere! Very happy to see them on this three day weekend. I went out for a ride and the State Trooper had a guy pulled over at 7:30AM and they were performing a sobriety test. Three day weekends can be very dangerous in Las Vegas.

Never even heard of this. Sounds like a violation of your constitutional rights, you are being found guilty without even a trial or your day in court WTF state is this??? I can understand they take your license when you get a DUI but you can drive with the ticket till you go court.

used to be the practice here until the Non Resident Violators Compact was implemented in the 80's. Had to pay right then or give up your license.

Seems to me that would be sometrhing someone could fight in court and stand a good chance of winning. Asking you to pay (which is a penalty for being guilty) is conviction without due process.

Im in a court room everyday throughout Illinois. Pretty much standard, when you pay - you are admitting guilt and no court appearance, you don't pay - you make your appearance to contest the charge or request court supervision (no conviction shows on your record). I think...LoL.

Here you actually pay before you plead not guilty, but the DJ actually gives your money back in the form of a check on the spot if you are found innocent. I do not have a problem with this system, however here you get your ticket and then have 10 days or ______ to get the money and your plea in.

Other states vary, cousins got caught speeding wayyyy over, thrown in jail overnight til they could be arraigned.

if you make an appearance to your local magistrate. Explain to them you have intention to plead not guilty and you do not have enough cash to pay the fine up front. You can pay as little as 10% +$5 processing fee (you pay the fee anyway) when you submit your plea.

And yes many states hammer visitors in this "pay on demand" situation. Florida was like this for many years if it currently is not.

This happened to me years ago because I was from out of state. They took my Lic as bail instead of a signature. I got it back when I came up with cash for bail.

Saw severl on Friday, but not as many on Saturday. Not only was it memorial day but near the end of the month so they gotta make that quota and increase the state\city\local revenue. Meanwhile how many real crimes were committed?
