I think this is a definite sign you are a "more is better" person. Take that to heart if you plan to do much more wrenching. Lots of steel screws in aluminum parts and when those threads strip or stretch, it's usually not screw. Big job made of a small one.
I had a tendency to go too heavy on tightening myself. Snug is often all you need + a little blue loktite if you're not sure. refer to torque specs and use a torque wrench that you know is calibrated properly. Be extra-extra careful on aluminum parts with threads. SNUG and locktite. Inside the engine, I avoid locktite as much as possible but that is the last place you want to strip threads.
