Front sprocket question.

Im in the process of stretching my bike. I have all the parts except for the 16 tooth front sprocket. My question, may be dumb, but here goes. Can I go ahead with the swap and change the front sprocket later without having to cut the chain? Or should I just wait and do it all at once. That could be over a week from now, and I dont really want to wait ! :confused2:

I swapped mine out on my gen 2, no cutting required all you have to do is loosen up the rear axle and slide it forward to get enough slack in the chain to remove and reinstall the front sprocket.

Thanks that what I thought, but I'll wait to get a for sure on a gen 1.

you do not have to cut the chain to change front sprocket.

just make sure you go middle of the road on your adjustments, wouldnt want the sprocket change to max out your adjusters, then you will be cutting it again.

I swap between 16 and 18 tooth on my 05 a couple times a year. No cutting required. Depending on the sprockets and how tight the chain's cut, you may need to remove the rear tire to get enough slack in the chain. That's the worst case scenario. Usually you can get the slack you need by loosening the adjuster.
