Exhaust Note Not Smooth??

I find this odd and I can't figure out why the bike is doing this. For some reason if I hold the throttle at a steady RPM only between 3K-4K RPMs my exhaust note sounds garbled and not smooth sounding. But if I increase or decrease RPMs in that bandwidth it goes away and sounds normal. Anything above 4K, with or without constant throttle position, it sounds perfectly fine. Seems to sound normal below 3K as well.

Any suggestions as this is the RPM I usually stay between when cruising around town or on the interstate??

I have a full RS3 system, shortened can, K&N & PC3USB. I've ran a leaner tune on the bike and it doesn't do it as much, but it seems to lose power on that tune. I dunno, it did this before the PC3 and still does it. Hell, maybe I have a lost rivet in the can, but it seems that it'd do it when I increase or decrease the throttle too.

Just kinda odd thing and I can't seem to eliminate it. Thanks for your input!

I wonder if I my pipe just has a resonate frequency it's in since I cut the pipe??? The system is a few years old, so maybe repacking it would help reduce the noise??

What do you repack a pipe with, is it a special type of fiberglass???

This is what it sounds like to me. Yer pipe is resonating at a certain frequency kinda like those "fart mufflers" on all the import cars.
I would add fiberglass packing material to the can. May be able to get a repacking kit at yer local bike shop...............

I didn't think you could repack the can . I was thinking about getting a new one . This might just save me a couple bucks.

I just placed my order. I had a hell of a time finding it on their site and never could find anything on h.org's site about re-packing either. So here's a link if anyone's interested:

Also can re-sleeve a can too. Thought this was pretty cool idea, even change to carbon if I wanted... though not the cheapest way. lol

After only 6 K miles , I did some mods to my exhaust . Took apart the cans and noticed that about 1/4 of the fiberglass in my D&D cans was burnt up or gone . Guess this is why the change in exhaust tones.

I have about 10K on this can, so it definitley needs to be changed!

I have 16k on mine ,what do you think should I change mine ?. Im sure liking the sound though...lol
