Domestic Violence has a face...

After reading the summary of events below covered on CNN I a dumbstruck by how brutal a person can behave. I'll admit that I was in doubt as to what happened between Rihanna and Brown. Maybe it was a simple argument that would be swept under the rug. Who knows, I have seen my share of violent jealous women which caused me to wonder if she went nuts and started beating him first.
If the report is accurate, Brown really blew it. Rihanna is blowing it by rejecting a restraining order.

Chris Brown allowed to have contact with Rihanna - CNN.com

This is a meaty excerpt from the article.

"Brown was driving a vehicle with Robyn F. as the front passenger on an unknown street in Los Angeles. Robyn F. picked up Brown's cellular phone and observed a three-page text message from a woman who Brown had a previous sexual relationship with.

"A verbal argument ensued and Brown pulled the vehicle over on an unknown street, reached over Robyn F. with his right hand, opened the car door and attempted to force her out. Brown was unable to force Robyn F. out of the vehicle because she was wearing a seat belt. When he could not force her to exit, he took his right hand and shoved her head against he passenger window of the vehicle, causing an approximate one-inch raised circular contusion.

"Robyn F. turned to face Brown and he punched her in the left eye with his right hand. He then drove away in the vehicle and continued to punch her in the face with his right hand while steering the vehicle with his left hand. The assault caused Robyn F.'s mouth to fill with blood and blood to splatter all over her clothing and the interior of the vehicle.

"Brown looked at Robyn F. and stated, 'I'm going to beat the s--t out of you when we get home! You wait and see!' "

The detective said "Robyn F." then used her cell phone to call her personal assistant Jennifer Rosales, who did not answer.

"Robyn F. pretended to talk to her and stated, 'I'm on my way home. Make sure the police are there when I get there.'

"After Robyn F. faked the call, Brown looked at her and stated, 'You just did the stupidest thing ever! Now I'm really going to kill you!'

"Brown resumed punching Robyn F. and she interlocked her fingers behind her head and brought her elbows forward to protect her face. She then bent over at the waist, placing her elbows and face near her lap in [an] attempt to protect her face and head from the barrage of punches being levied upon her by Brown.

"Brown continued to punch Robyn F. on her left arm and hand, causing her to suffer a contusion on her left triceps (sic) that was approximately two inches in diameter and numerous contusions on her left hand.

"Robyn F. then attempted to send a text message to her other personal assistant, Melissa Ford. Brown snatched the cellular telephone out of her hand and threw it out of the window onto an unknown street.

"Brown continued driving and Robyn F. observed his cellular telephone sitting in his lap. She picked up the cellular telephone with her left hand and before she could make a call he placed her in a head lock with his right hand and continued to drive the vehicle with his left hand.

"Brown pulled Robyn F. close to him and bit her on her left ear. She was able to feel the vehicle swerving from right to left as Brown sped away. He stopped the vehicle in front of 333 North June Street and Robyn F. turned off the car, removed the key from the ignition and sat on it.

"Brown did not know what she did with the key and began punching her in the face and arms. He then placed her in a head lock positioning the front of her throat between his bicep and forearm. Brown began applying pressure to Robyn F.'s left and right carotid arteries, causing her to be unable to breathe and she began to lose consciousness.

"She reached up with her left hand and began attempting to gouge his eyes in an attempt to free herself. Brown bit her left ring and middle fingers and then released her. While Brown continued to punch her, she turned around and placed her back against the passenger door. She brought her knees to her chest, placed her feet against Brown's body and began pushing him away. Brown continued to punch her on the legs and feet, causing several contusions.

"Robyn F. began screaming for help and Brown exited the vehicle and walked away. A resident in the neighborhood heard Robyn F.'s plea for help and called 911, causing a police response. An investigation was conducted and Robyn F. was issued a Domestic Violence Emergency Protective Order."

At the end of his statement, Andrews said Brown sent a text message nine days later apologizing.

"In the text message, Brown apologized for what he had done to Robyn F. and advised [Rihanna's assistant] Ford that he was going to get help."

Makes you sick.. :banghead:

Yep, the whole thing is sickening. I get SO frustrated when women just let this sh*t go to, but having never been in that position, I guess I shouldn't pass judgment. I had a friend that was going through a "domestic situation" and the more we all tried to help, the more she'd let him do/get away with, the more she'd sort of run back to his side...it's a very vicious cycle...

But he will. Why? because he has money, and thats just how it works.

I feel sorry for ANY woman who is a victim of domestic violence. The first time it happens to them. If they go back to the guy who did it to them, it's like they are condoning it.

On the same token.. I feel sorry for anyONE that is a victim of domestic violence. Plenty of guys just let their women beat on them for some irrational rage and never report it. They stay in the relationship until they have to defend themselves only to be arrested and made out to be the aggressor. That or they get stabbed and killed by their girlfriends like a guy I once knew.

I hear that, I have a friend and he lets his wife beat the life out of him. He is a big dude, but never raises a hand. I keep telling him he needs to get out and report it, before it gets out of hand, but just like a women says about a man, "she doesn't mean it."

I could never raise a hand to my wife, and trust me when I say sometimes she makes me REALLy mad, but this is behavior that I will never understand.

Yeah, you're right Projekt. Thats how i should have said it to begin with. The problem is the bias in the legal system though. If your wife hits you and you call the cops they aren't gonna do anything. Of course if you defend yourself and leave a mark of any sort on her, you're going to go to jail. Heck you might go if she just SAYS you hit her.

This is far from an isolated incident, this kind of stuff happens all the time, most of it we never hear about because the offenders and victims aren't famous. I will never understand it especially the part where victims don't report it and continue to stay in the relationship.

I'm not going to say this doesn't happen, but I can assure you we take plenty of women to jail for domestic battery. Much of the training I've had on domestic violence emphasizes that the abuse goes both ways. One reason the numbers are so skewed one way is because most men are too embarassed to admit their partner beat them.

People can be so insanely effed up. It must be some kind of disorder/imbalance or something.

Very uncivilized.

Actually it's a vicious cycle that only ends in the death of one. Only if the cycle is broken by the victim

It is good to know that LE training these days emphasizes the duality. Now, getting the word out to break the stigma will be the hard part. Unfortunately, you don't see PSAs aimed at men who may be victims.

That's because most of the public service announcements are paid for by special interest groups who have other agendas as well. Most all of the LEOs that I know make decisions based upon evidence vs the story told by parties involved. Yes this does get tricky at times and yes mistakes are made, we're all human, but I've never seen anyone intentionally bias their decisions based upon gender alone.

They both need help. They need to stay away from each other until they have completed their help programs. Hopefully if they take getting help seriously, they can come back from this stronger. So young and stupid.
