buddy of mine has hit 2 deer on his bike!! crashed the second time. Didn't even faze him. The goofball rides in rain snow, sunshine........talk about a hardcore rider!
Looked pretty accurate to me. Every night I see at least 60-80 deer within a mile of my house. Especially from Jan-April when they heard up pretty bad.
What cracks me up are the people that think those little deer whistles actually work and drive like they're invisible. Kinda like the other thread about the "brake" alert system. Yeah right.
i can tell you a true deer story my freind gavin was haulin arss on a country road home on his 900rr. he was coming down a hill and looked up and all he saw was a deer lookin right at him he was goin about a 100 or so so he did all he could to slow down then he decided screw it i am goin through it and he did he missed the rib cage by inches he went down cause all the fluid like bloood. he was lucky as he#$ the bike had no fairings left he was pickin fur and deer skin out of his nails for weeks but ever since then he doesnt do that at night cause he doesnt want to make a second journey down that path.
The deer itself doesn't look real. It looks as though you can see through it. The real give away to me is the size of the deer. How high do you figure the camera is mounted from the ground? I figure about 20 inches. And the camera hits the deer in the head. That would be the smallest deer ever. Heck, they're taller than that when they're born. The pic of the dead dear on the road is not a baby.
I hit a deer on January 3rd while riding my V-Strom home from work. I had just shifted into 6th traveling at 60 mph. I saw a flash of brown come out of the woods about 20 feet off the side of the road. I had just enough time to push the bars to the right to try and steer behind a medium sized doe. I never had time to release the throttle, pull in the clutch, nothing. Hit her right in the hips. I went over the bars and cartwheeled down the road. I suffered several dislocations in my right foot, a shattered cuboid bone in the foot, a broken fibula, and three broken bones in my right wrist. I had surgery to repair the cuboid and I am on the mend. Yesterday the doc gave me a walking cast and told me I have four more weeks and then rehab. Hopefully I will be riding by the end of April.
I had (nearly) all my gear on. I actually took one hit on my helmet and slid face first down the road for a period of time. My jacket was destroyed as were my winter riding gloves. My boots took a beating, too. I was stupid and only was wearing jeans (got to get some armored pants!), but someone was watching over me and all I got was a bit of rash on my right knee. My V-Strom did very well, and I am in the process of rebuilding it. Only rashed up a few things, the Givi crash bars and rear box rack took the worst of the damage.
If I'm able, I'll try and come up for the bash, but I'll be one of the slow ones. I prefer my CBR600F4i for the Gap over my 'busa any day.

Loud pipes, high pitched whistles, etc. are useless. At best you will do is spook them into running and that is when it gets real crazy. I've got dual exhauset on my truck and it doesn't even phase them. The best thing is know the deer, their habits and their nature. Be alert and cautious. I'd say the HID's are your best bet.
