Last Saturday, I went out riding w/a few friends, and my one friend was raggin' on me b/c I wasn't doing lightspeed on my cycle. I have a 7 month old kid (which made for fun when trying to get "Congressional" approval for another bike as it was), and this was also my first "long day" out w/the Busa..

I wanna have fun on my bike, and enjoy the short BLASTS when getting out on the highway, but I've seen one too many pics of folks who've been turned into ground chuck from constantly pushing the envelope.

So, I guess my question is, am I being "too" careful when I ride? After meeting up with another friend of this guy's, one of his first questions to me was, "so do you ride sane, or insane like [friend X]?" My response was, "I ride like a dude with a 7 month old.."

It all depends on who your asking. you'll probably get a few different answers here!
i say no. if you are cruising and thats great with you - your doing the right thing! why do you need anothers approval.
remember - dance like no ones watching!

My one friend is always super-intent on being the one with the biggest sac... Then again, he's also not married and with child- He!! I'm lucky to even HAVE a bike at this stage of the game..

Busafett,
I have been riding for over 20 years. You can NEVER be too careful when you ride. You can ride hard and push the bike, but always be careful and don't try to ride beyond your capabilities. I have a 12 year old (turned 12 on Friday). Everytime I swing a leg, I think I am coming home tonight in one piece.

Just my $.02.

Don't ever let anyone elses riding style dictate how YOU ride. Everyone rides for different reasons.

I like your answer..riding like I have a 7 month old. Very cool. Keep within your comfort zone while on the street. If you want to push the envelope, and improve your skills, go to the track.

He's a great friend, don't get me wrong- And thanks for all the feedback. He's just one of those folks who believes that if you're gonna buy a Busa, you better be ready to ride it like a stuck pig..

I actually just got the Busa b/c I'm 6'2, and got tired of chewing on my knees on any other sport bike I rode. And I'm not ready just yet to move into the cruiser category (no offense to any owners of cruiser bikes).

Ride within your comfort zone. Don't let anyone talk you into riding outside of your limits. I've seen some nasty wrecks caused by people trying to keep up with the "cool" guy.

Your friend is wrong . He is not going to support your wife and kids if you get out there and do something stupid . To me you are more of a man then he his .Family first always..Doesnt hurt to have fun .A busa can cruise around and look just as good as a 60,000 chopper you ride it the way you want it is yours . If he doesnt think you are man enough or that you have to ride extreme all the time then ask him to make the payments if you screw up..Just like all the peopl that say you are a puXXy if you dont ride wheelies maybe so but you are not replacing plastic either .Doesnt take but one time .. Only one time .. My kids are grown so i can ride a little dumber now but still do not ride past my ability..Not worth it..

Ride within YOUR limits, not someone elses.
My personal riding envelope gets larger each trip out. It's not because I'm taking chances, but because I'm still learning, and practicing the important stuff, like panic stops.

My kids have told me, the first time they see me riding like a lunatic, they will not talk to me anymore. If I get to the point where "close calls" become commonplace because of my riding style, the Tach gets a pic. of my kids posted to it. If that don't work... For Sale.

Been in similar situations and respond the same way. Ride like I got a 3 yr old who needs her daddy. Just because you have the fastest bike doesn't mean you need to prove it's the fastest. That's already been proven. I ride to get the wind in my face and it just so happens that I decided to buy the fastest bike on the street. Unless you get rid of the Busa, your'e always gonna have guys wanting you to race just cause its a Busa. You did the right thing, coming from a father of 1 and a half

That is why I ride alone 90% of the time. Outside of the other org members, I don't ride with too many other groups, especially squids!

What's more important to you....being cool and hanging out with your riding
buddy....or being there for your family

Sometimes I'm THE crazy rider, but that is my choice....I don't try to keep up
with anybody else just to be one of the guys.

My point is that FRIENDS should not pressure anyone to ride out of their
comfort zone

My main riding buddy is a married father of 4. Alot easier to stay out of trouble when your'e riding with someone who has a reason for living.

its your bike, ride the way you want to ride. but i think if you have a wife and kid to think about then you respect them by riding like you do. me on the other hand, i have no wife and kid, hence the username. thats how i ride, but its mostly when im riding alone or just with one friend. you have to be safe and have respect respect for the lives of the people your riding with. if your friend rides crazy when your with him, hopefuly he doesnt do stupid crap like passing you at 150 in the same lane or doing wheelies close by. if so hes putting your life in danger along with his. but all that is just my $0.02 when i get a wife and kids im changing my username to calmeddownbusa

It's your bike, your the one paying for it, ride it like you want to. If he's a real friend, he won't try pushing you to do something you don't want to do.

Be a leader not a follower. to me riding is freedom. with freedom comes responsibility.

you are responsible to your, family yourself and we have a responsibilty to other motorist that are around us.

why do you ride?

i have a friend who is "touched" hr splits lanes jet in and out of cars showing how good he can ride. i let him go ahead after a while he realizes i'm not going to try and keep up with him he slows down and drives like he got sense.

Just keep riding like you ride he might slow down and you might save his life.
